WHY DO WE TEST THE VERTICAL JUMP?
The vertical jump is more than just seeing how high an athlete can jump.
It gives us a quick, objective look at an athlete’s ability to produce explosive power, the ability to apply force quickly. A vertical jump happens in a very short amount of time, making it great snapshot of lower-body power and explosiveness.
For baseball and softball athletes, that ability to produce and control force matters, especially in athletic movements like sprinting, jumping, changing direction, and throwing.
So why test it?
Because you can't improve what you don't measure.
At the Reds Combine, athletes will establish a baseline, see where they currently stand, and have measurable information they can use to guide their training.
Stay tuned for more testing breakdowns!
