CrossFit Harpoon

CrossFit Harpoon Looking for a change? Every one here wants better habits: maybe it’s to lose weight, gain more energy or to live healthier. Choose the active life.

CrossFit in southern Maine, serving the communities of York, Wells, Ogunquit, Eliiot, as well as many others! CrossFit Harpoon is not a typical gym where you pay a fee, use the equipment and go home. We program your training, coach and correct your form, offer nutritional advice, and make you feel welcome each time you come through the door. You are not a number, you are our friend: we know your name, your limitations and, overtime, we will help you push harder, faster than you may have thought was possible. You’re getting personal training in a small group environment during each visit. Our fitness education program is result-based, which is why we believe our rates to be an exceptional investment. We’re located right on Route One in York, Maine, making it easy to access whether you live in the area or are passing through on vacation! If you’re interested in coming by, email us [email protected] with a good day/time that works for you to stop in. Trainers are available as early as 5am – 7pm. Looking forward to meeting you!

Here’s a number that should mess with your assumptions a little: on our wall sit test, the 40-49 age group isn’t just keeping pace with the rest of the gym — they’re beating it. Gym-wide avg: 2:02. Their avg: 2:13.

That’s not a fluke, and it’s not really about the wall sit. It’s what happens when you’ve spend a few more years than everybody else building strength and grinding through hard, honest work. Turns out that adds up to *more* capacity, not less.

Nobody in that age group is thinking about “slowing down.” They’re the ones setting the pace.

Willpower is unreliable by design. It’s highest when you don’t need it and lowest exactly when you do.

So the people who actually stay consistent generally aren’t the ones with more of it. They’re the ones who’ve built a place where showing up doesn’t require much willpower at all — a set time, a coach expecting them, people who’ll notice if they’re not there.

That’s what this is supposed to be: not a test of your discipline, but a place that makes discipline kind of unnecessary.

Active humans are happy humans — because they’ve stopped relying on willpower to get there.

Nobody’s life gets measured in workouts. It gets measured in the hikes you said yes to, the ski days you didn’t cut short, the moments you were strong enough — or just game enough — to show up for.

That’s the whole reason we do what we do. Not to make you good at exercising. To make you ready for whatever your actual life throws at you — the heavy suitcase, the steep trail, the extra lap with a kid on your shoulders.

Active humans are happy humans. Train for the life, not the workout.

Zachary L. — one of the firefighters we train — tops our Under-30 push-up leaderboard at 63. Jackson T. is right behind him at 40. Giselle S. rounds out the top three at 36.

Impressive numbers on their own. But the real point isn’t the leaderboard — it’s the timeline.

The strength and capacity you build in your 20s isn’t just for your 20s. It’s the foundation you’ll be drawing on at 50, at 60, and beyond — the difference between a body that keeps up with the life you want and one that starts saying no. Nobody builds that capacity by accident, and nobody keeps it by accident, either.

Zachary, Jackson, and Giselle and the rest aren’t just training for today. They’re training for the next 30 years of hikes, ski days, rescues, and everything else that’s still ahead of them.

There’s no “type” of person who trains here.

Look around any given class and you’ll find a mix that has nothing in common except the hour they chose to show up: the early crew who’d rather get it done before the day starts, the midday group squeezing it in between meetings, the after-work crowd unwinding from whatever the day threw at them.

Different reasons, seasons, schedules — but the same effort, whiteboard, and place.

That’s the thing about a class environment — it isn’t really about who else happens to be in it. It’s about the fact that you showed up to yours.

Motivation is going to leave you. It leaves everyone. That's not a character flaw — that's Tuesday.

What gets you there anyway isn't willpower. It's the text from the 6am crew asking where you were. It's knowing your name is expected on the whiteboard. It's a room full of people quietly counting on you to show up — the same way you're counting on them.

Discipline is easier when you're not carrying it alone. That's what a community is for.

There's a language you only learn by showing up.

The countdown that makes your heart pound. The collective groan at the whiteboard. The floor you collapse onto next to someone who was a stranger a month ago and is a friend now.

None of it makes the sales page — but it's the whole reason people stay.

You’ll come for the fitness. You'll stay for the people.

Every person who shows up here consistently made a choice — usually a quiet one, with no fanfare.

They decided that health was going to be the thing they said yes to. Which meant it was also going to be the thing other things got said no to.

Late nights. The extra episode. The social stuff that runs long. The weekends that spiral.

Not every time. But more often than before.

That’s the unsexy truth about fitness: it’s not about finding the right program or the perfect schedule. It’s about deciding — really deciding — that the life you want to keep living is worth protecting.

Active people are happy people. But active doesn’t happen by accident.

Most people are waiting to feel ready. The ones who get there already started.
