Love this extremely high IQ play from the Cardinals yesterday.
LF misplays the ball and the SS gives up on the play. The 2B watches this happens, runs to become the cutoff man, and fires a dart home to get the runner!
Never be a spectator.

Show this to the catcher in your life!
I took the All-Star Break to break down comprehensive catcher mechanics, featuring Sean Murphy, a catcher with one of the best pop times in baseball.
Do catchers need a strong arm? Yes, but I wouldn’t say they need the *strongest* arm. Arm strength means nothing without good technique, and good technique means nothing without a strong arm. It works together.
Also remember, throwing is one of the handful of things catcher’s do. Calling a game, framing, receiving, blocking, managing a staff… You need to do all of this well.
Hit that like button if you want more!

Players like Calvin is why I love coaching. Some clips of his were sent my way — I sent him a video back and less than four hours later, he took all of that information and turned it into poetry in motion. 🤩
Every detail matters when you want to compete and succeed at a high level. In this video, you can get a better feel for how I like to teach. And I wanted to show off the awesome progress of Calvin, which you can see at the end! The credit goes to him — it’s the players who have to put it into action, I’m simply here to help the best I can.
PM if you’re interested in video breakdowns for your players.

Feeling very fortunate to have worked with some awesome people this week!
⏺️ Threw BP with Breckin Nace, a Radford commit. This man was literally denting my baseballs 😂
⏺️ Worked with my man Reed, who plays for the Young Revs. Reed is 8 years old, showed up with a great attitude and is going to be a future stud.
Thank you to everyone who is making this possible. Lets keep it going!
One of the most common problems I see at all ages: Lack of balance in your swing.
We’re taught at a young age to begin our load by picking up our front foot. But why? Some of it is timing, but the real key is in our back hip.
We’re not picking up our front foot to transfer our weight. Really, most of our swing will be done on our back leg (i.e. “staying back”).
What we really want is to coil our back hip. Think of it like a rubber band — when we sling shot it back, we’re building tension and when we release, the band snaps through and brings the rest of it with it. It’s a similar concept.
Your hips need to be the foundation of your swing! I cannot say it enough. That hip rotation is what will generate power. By coiling our hip and landing light on our front foot, we give our bodies the ability to adjust — you’ll lose that opportunity by being too far out in front.
There’s a lot of great people who demonstrate this much more in-depth, and I’m happy to talk about the lower half in more detail if you guys want.
Feel free to comment more video ideas you might like to see or things you are struggling with.
P.s. Sorry for the wind 😂

👋 Time to introduce myself and let you know what I'm all about!
I'm Chris Ca****la, a varsity baseball coach with York Suburban. I work primarily with catchers at YS but was a utility man during my playing days. I love and study the game and feel comfortable teaching all aspects -- physical AND mental!
Coaching can be full of confusing and contradicting metaphors.
🗣️ "Stay inside the baseball!"
🗣️ "Keep your weight back!"
🗣️ "Get your hands to the ball!"
🗣️ "Keep your arm up!"
While coaches have good intentions, I find that a lot of the time there's a disconnect between what they're trying to say and what players understand. Here, we can focus on explaining the details and putting them to use with a variety of drills and reps.
I grew up in York County and want to grow the game here. If you want training at higher prices with someone who has a pedigree, that's not me. However, I think my personal experiences are exactly why we can get better together. Growing up, I wish I had a coach who took the time to explain the *why*.
