The first ever Round of 32 in World Cup history just happened. And it was pure chaos. ⚽πŸ”₯

Germany: 4 time world champions eliminated on penalties by Paraguay. 4-3 Gone.
Morocco knocked out the Netherlands on penalties.
Egypt beat Australia in the shootout. Salah like he had ice in his veins.
Cape Verde pushed defending champions Argentina to extra time before finally going out 3-2. A nation of 600,000 people nearly knocked out the Argentina.
USA beat Bosnia 2-0.

For first time EVER, all three co-hosts (USA, Canada, Mexico) all advanced to the Round of 16 together.

The penalty spot is the great equalizer. No reputation saves you. No ranking protects you.

Mexico opened strong with a win over South Africa.

Then the upsets started rolling in:

My favorite World Cup team has never won it.
And that is exactly why I ride with them every single tournament. 🧑⚽
The Netherlands. 1974. Johan Cruyff. Total Football.

The most beautiful soccer the world had ever seen β€” played on the biggest stage in the world β€” and they still came up short in the final.
Cruyff never got his trophy. That still bothers me.

But what he left behind was bigger than any trophy.
Total Football changed the entire game. Guardiola built Barcelona on it. Klopp has DNA from it. Every possession-based coach in the world traces roots back to what Cruyff built with the Netherlands.

As a youth soccer coach that philosophy hits different for me. Intelligence. Movement. Creativity. Every player thinks. Every player contributes. That is what I build at GSI every single day.

The world has caught up. Soccer is global now. But when I watch the Netherlands I still see that DNA.
Still waiting on that World Cup trophy. πŸ™

Week 1 of the 2026 World Cup just gave us one of the greatest underdog stories in tournament history. 🌍⚽

Cape Verde. A small island nation. Making their World Cup debut. Against Spain β€” one of the favorites to win it all.
Nobody gave them a chance.

The talk before kickoff wasn't IF Spain would win. It was by how much.
Cape Verde said no. 0-0. Full time.

That's why we watch this tournament. That's why the World Cup is the greatest sporting event on earth.
