It was a defensive struggle in the rain yesterday at the Bentley Athletic Complex that wasn’t decided until the final minute of play. Junior kicker Wyatt Matulis hit a 38-yard field goal with 52 seconds left in regulation to account for the only points in the game as the football team blanked Fitch, 3-0, to improve to 2-1 on the season. Middle linebacker Cooper Harris spearheaded the defense for the Centaurs as he put together an “All-State type” of performance according to coach Connor Elliott with numerous tackles including several that resulted in loss of yards for the Falcons. Quarterback Eli Poh completed 18 of 31 passes for the Centaurs for 178 yards, Griffen Bloom had four catches for 80 yards.

The girls soccer team improved to 3-1-2 overall and 2-0-2 in Division I of the Eastern Connecticut Conference with a 3-1 victory over East Lyme yesterday at the Kelly Field on South Campus. All of the Centaurs scoring came in the first half as Harper Simoneau scored twice and Lillian Gregorzek added a goal and an assist.
