25 Years of Kenshokan — Let’s Celebrate on the Mat
As part of Kenshokan 25, our celebration of KSK’s 25th Anniversary, we’re bringing students, instructors, alumni and friends together for an AJJF-sanctioned Danzan Ryu Jujitsu Kata Contest.
We want you to participate.
Whether this is your first kata contest, you’re an experienced competitor, or you haven’t put on a gi in years, this is an opportunity to set a goal, train with purpose, support your partner and demonstrate the very best jujitsu you can perform.
What Is a Kata Contest?
The American Judo and Jujitsu Federation describes Kata Contests as “formal demonstrations of the fundamental techniques of the Danzan Ryu Jujitsu system.”
Kata gives us an opportunity to take techniques we already practice and work toward a higher standard.
It is not simply about knowing what to do. It is about refining how we do it—developing posture, distance, movement, timing, balance, control and precision.
A kata contest gives you and your partner a reason to take those details seriously, train them repeatedly and present your technique at your very best.
That is the challenge: not simply to perform the technique, but to pursue excellence in the technique.
Training Starts Now
The official contest techniques, divisions and rules will be released, and Kenshokan tournament preparation begins immediately.
Find your partner. Learn your techniques. Ask questions. Work with your instructors. Train the details.
We want everyone who participates to walk onto the mat on November 14 knowing that they prepared seriously and gave their very best.
You do not need to be perfect before you decide to compete.
The process of preparing for the contest is part of what will make you better.
