Your putting grip might look different from someone else's, and that's okay! There are several ways to grip a putter, from left hand low to right hand low, interlocking your fingers, or even using a claw grip. In this episode of our ABCs of Putting series, I take a closer look at G for Grip and why I'm not here to tell you which grip you should use. Click to watch and learn more: https://youtu.be/S-U45Q9Vdfw?si=I2ykZILzBZ9XU6o9

The most important thing is finding a grip that feels comfortable, gives you control of the putter, and allows you to consistently square the putter face at impact. Once you find a grip that works for you, stick with it and practice it until it becomes automatic. You don't want to be fighting your grip or thinking about how you're holding the putter when you're standing over a putt.

The Delta Putt is a great tool for practicing all aspects of your putting, including your grip, so you can build a consistent setup and stroke you can trust. Get yours at DeltaPutt.com

Do you know what the most critical aspect of putting is? It's getting your face angle at 90 degrees square to your intended line. If you're not doing that, you won't make the putt. You've got to learn how to square the putter face at impact every time.

In this episode of our ABCs of Putting series, I take a closer look at face angle and why it is so important to making putts. To demonstrate just how much face angle matters, I hit two putts with an imperfect stroke path. On one, my stroke path was slightly inside-to-outside, and on the other, it was outside-to-inside. Even though neither stroke path was perfect, I was still able to get the ball into the hole because I had the putter face square to my intended line at impact.

This is not to say stroke path doesn't matter. It absolutely does, and the goal is to develop a consistent stroke path along with a square face angle. But if you have to prioritize one, getting the face square at impact is critical because it has such a major influence on where the ball starts. The Delta Putt gives you instant feedback on both your stroke path and face angle, so you can see exactly what your putter is doing and practice making those adjustments until they become consistent. One thing you can explore on the putting green doesn't require any equipment at all: use your shadow. On a sunny day, set up so you can see your shadow while you putt and watch for movement in your head, legs, or body during your stroke. You might discover something you didn't even realize you were doing. The key is to stay open-minded. Don't be afraid to try something new, experiment, and see what helps you become a better putter. How’s your distance control out on the golf course? When you’re putting from 20, 30, or even 40 feet, don’t get tense because you think you need to make the putt. Your goal isn’t to sink it. Your goal is to get the ball within a 4-foot diameter of the hole. Start with your consistent setup routine, pick an intermediate target a few feet in front of the ball, and focus on getting the speed right. If you can consistently get that long putt within 4 feet of the hole, your next putt should be an automatic in. Before your next round, try this drill on the putting green from different distances. Better distance control means fewer three-putts and more confidence on the greens. This is the next episode in our ABCs of Putting series.
