✨🫶🏻I very often hear “my body will never be the same again..”
🖤2+ years post partum from my second & here are my nuggets as a pregnancy & post-partum athleticism coach with 15 years of experience in sports medicine & coaching ⬇️
👊🏼I still have a 4ish finger diastasis (you can see it on my toes2bar😶) - so what? Totally functional. Doesn’t get in my way at all. It just exists, but I was able to still rebuild my trunk rather seamlessly (in an intentional way of course😉). Yes, my body is forever changed, but arguably my core has never felt stronger.
💣 There is no timeline to returning to fitness. Every family dynamic is different. Every experience is different & motherhood changes you in unexpected ways. Fitness will be there when you’re ready.
✨The hustle slows down. It will not always be frantic trying to fit {ALL the } things into nap time. The kid (s) will join in while you workout, or play in the yard while you run intervals in the driveway. Don’t get me wrong, there is always chaos, but it’s different. Just view it as movement for now, any movement is good movement!
💣On PP fitness take your time. Take your time to reconnect. If you have access see a PT, if not for pelvic floor even to help with ribcage mobility, BREATHING & stretching. It all matters.
🚫Don’t skip over the fundamentals. They set you for a lifetime of athleticism, yes a lifetime!! Even if you are the outdoor endurance athlete, take time to incorporate strength into your routine. It will serve you in unexpected ways throughout your lifetime.
📈I Pr’d my back squat 18 months after my first pregnancy #260 & 2 years following my second #265. You can & will improve… OVER TIME (years), but the day to day adds up. 👊🏼 the numbers are to show progress over time. Those PRs were 3 years apart!
💣Yes, my body is forever changed, but I may argue my fitness level is improving 😉. Your current state isn’t forever, think about the long game! Where do you want to be 4-5 years from now? Stop focusing on the next month or even year, look ahead.
