Alice Heller Dance

Alice Heller Dance Teacher of African dance, Nia (somatic fitness/yoga) Qi Gong and Children's classes in the Ma. (Boston/W.MA) Alice Heller has been dancing for most of her life.

Her main focus is on Nia and African dance. She has been working with children and adults for over 18 years. Starting with classic dance genres, she moved to African dance in 1989 and has studied seriously for 20 plus years as a performer and teacher. Besides African-based dance and drumming, Alice's studies transitioned her to work with children in preschools and private class settings. She has taught jazz, creative movement, hip hop, improvisational dance and gymnastics and more recently internal martial arts and Nia. She earned her White Belt Nia certificate in 2011 with Casey Bernstein and her Blue Belt in August of 2013 and Brown Belt 2017. Nia classes integrate dance, martial arts and the healing arts including yoga. Alice brings all the modalities to her class making them unique and moving – internal as well as external. Teaching in the Boston Metro area, Alice shares her passion for connecting body and mind through classes, workshops and drum / dance events. In addition to teaching adults, she still regularly offers music and movement classes to young children, African dance to teens and adults, as well as weekly Nia and African dance classes in the Boston / Concord area and workshops as well as private sessions.

HEY UMASS AMHERST COLLEGE : Nia classes for you :
Nia is practiced barefoot in a group and set to diverse music from around the world. It is non-impact and adaptable to all individual needs and abilities. Participants wear loose-fitting clothes. Alice Heller, an experienced instructor, will demonstrate and accommodate all intensity levels. All are welcome to participate in these FREE classes. Join us for one or all 10 classes during Fall 2026.
Classes meet:
every other Wednesday @ 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm
(September 30, October 14 & 28, November 18 & December 9) and every other Friday @ 4 pm – 5 pm
(September 25, October 9 & 23, November 13 & December 4)
Fridays in 101 Furcolo Hall and Wednesdays in 102 Furcolo Hall, College of Education
