A little vulnerable post today.

Back in May, my iron was already low at 39. I was prescribed an iron supplement through the VA and have been taking it consistently since then.

Last week, I had more labs done.

My iron is now 21.

For comparison, the normal reference range on my lab is 50–180.

So instead of improving while on supplementation, it dropped significantly. A few of the other iron-related markers are also very low, which means this is something my doctors are taking seriously and looking into further.

I’m currently waiting to be scheduled for an endoscopy and colonoscopy to look for a possible source of gastrointestinal blood loss and rule out other causes of the iron deficiency.

And yeah, I’m worried.

It’s hard not to be when you know something is off, you don’t know why yet, and you’re waiting for appointments and answers. That in-between space can really mess with your head.

At the same time, I’m trying not to let myself live there all day.

One of the best distractions I have right now is my work, so I want to take a second to shout out my clients.

Thank you for showing up for yourselves, trusting me with your goals, sending me your wins, asking questions, putting in the work, and giving me something positive to focus on every day. You probably don’t realize how much I appreciate it.

And a special shoutout to my new in-person crew. Getting back to training people face-to-face has been such a good thing for me, and you’re all doing awesome.

So while I wait for answers, I’ll keep doing what I can control: taking care of myself, following up with my doctors, training when I feel good enough to train, and pouring some energy into helping other people get stronger.

Also, I do have a little more room for in-person training in the Greenwood area.

Fiber might be the most underrated tool in fat loss.

It does not get the spotlight that protein or calories do, but it quietly makes everything easier. Fiber slows digestion, which keeps you full longer and steadies your energy, so the deficit you are running stops feeling like a constant battle with your appetite.

It also does more than help your waistline. Fiber feeds your gut, supports steady digestion, and helps manage cholesterol and blood sugar. The fat-loss benefit is almost a side effect of simply having a healthier system.

The best part is you do not need a supplement or a cleanse to get it. Build your meals around vegetables, fruit, beans, lentils, oats, and whole grains, and you will hit your fiber without tracking a single gram.

Add a fiber source to each meal and watch hunger, energy, and digestion improve together.

Wrapping up this lean bulk a little earlier than originally planned.

11 weeks. About 14 lbs up. I’m really happy with what I was able to accomplish.

This was the first stretch in a long time where I could really focus on BUILDING. No surgeries, no forced time away from training, no constantly having to rebuild after another interruption. I got to eat, train hard, recover, and give my body some actual time to grow.

That part has been really rewarding.

The mental side has probably been harder than the physical side, though. Intentionally watching the scale climb after spending so much time trying to make it go the other direction can really mess with your head.

Some days I felt huge in the best possible way. Other days I felt like I had gained way too much fat and wanted to pull back immediately. Looking at the photos now, I think I probably gained a lot more fat in my head than I did in reality.

That has been part of the growth too.

Learning to sit with a little softness. Learning that not every successful phase has to end with sharper abs. Learning that sometimes progress means taking up more space instead of less.

I’m ready to switch gears now, trim things back down a bit, and see what we built underneath all of this.

For now, I’m proud of the work. 14 lbs in 11 weeks, a lot of lessons learned, and definitely more size than when I started.

On to the next phase. 💪

Nobody posts about maintenance, and that is a shame, because it might be the most important skill in fitness.

We treat holding your weight as standing still, as if the only real progress is the scale going down. But maintaining a result is what proves the result was real. It is the difference between a diet you survived and a life you can actually live. Learning to eat at the level that holds your body steady is a skill, and most people never practice it because they are always chasing the next drop.

There is nothing wrong with a season of simply staying where you are, keeping your strength, keeping your habits, and giving your body and mind a rest from restriction. That is not failure. That is you learning to keep what you worked for.

If you are in a maintenance season, honor it. It is where lasting change actually lives.

If I want it for you more than you want it for yourself, you don’t need a coach. You need a reason. Find it. THEN let me show you how.

Or you can get started here while you allow yourself to be vulnerable enough to find your WHY.

One hard treadmill session on Saturday does less for you than you would guess.

The movement that quietly shapes your results is the movement you barely notice. Walking to the car, taking the stairs, pacing on a call, carrying groceries. Added up across a week, that everyday activity burns far more than a single workout, and it is far easier to repeat because it does not require a spare hour or a change of clothes.

This is why a daily step target often outperforms occasional cardio for fat loss and for energy. It is consistent, it is low stress on your body, and it fits into the life you already live. The treadmill is fine. The habit of simply moving more, every day, is what compounds.

Pick a daily step goal you can hit on a normal day, then let the ordinary movement do its quiet work.

I’ve spent a lot of this year chasing different versions of progress.

Sometimes that meant getting leaner. Sometimes it meant getting stronger. Right now, it means allowing myself to take up a little more space.

That part has been harder than I expected.

There are days I feel big in a way I love, and other days I immediately notice every bit of softness that came with it. But when I look at these photos objectively, I can see the work. More size. More shape. More density. More proof that growth does not always look like getting smaller.

I’m learning that progress can be uncomfortable and still be progress.

The goal right now is to keep building, stay patient, and trust the process long enough to see what’s underneath when I eventually lean back out.

For now, I’m proud of this version too.

Motivation is a feeling, and feelings do not show up on schedule.

Everyone starts strong when the excitement is fresh. The problem is that excitement fades by the second cold morning or the first stressful week, and if your consistency depends on feeling motivated, it collapses right when you need it. This is not a character flaw. It is just how motivation works for almost everyone.

What carries you when the feeling is gone is a plan small enough to keep on a bad day. A set number of workouts you can actually hit. A protein target you know by heart. Meals you do not have to think hard about. When the behavior is decided in advance, you do not need to win an argument with yourself every morning.

Build the plan while you are motivated so it can run you when you are not.

There’s a weird mental gymnastics that comes with chasing physique goals.

When I cut, there are days I feel too small. When I bulk, there are days I feel too soft. Somehow my brain can find a way to criticize either direction.

And then there are moments like this.

The lighting hits right. The angle hits right. I catch a photo where, instead of immediately looking for what I want to change, I actually see the work. I see the years of training, the consistency, the meals, the setbacks, the rebuilds, and all the little decisions that added up to something I’m proud of.

I think that’s part of why I love having a goal in the first place. It isn’t always about being leaner or bigger. Sometimes it’s building muscle. Sometimes it’s cutting. Sometimes it’s improving endurance, getting faster, training for a race, or just proving to myself that I can do something I couldn’t do before.

There’s a lot of joy for me in having something to chase.

I’m still learning how to appreciate where I am while also wanting more. Those two things don’t have to cancel each other out.

Today, I looked at this photo and thought, “Damn. I look big.”

And for once, I meant that entirely as a compliment. 😆💪

GLP-1 medications work by quieting your appetite, which is exactly why they need a plan around them.

When you are barely hungry, it is easy to eat far too little and to skip the one nutrient that protects you most. Losing weight quickly while under eating protein means a real share of what you lose is muscle, not just fat. That is the outcome nobody wants, because muscle is what keeps your metabolism, your strength, and your shape intact.

The fix is simple to say and worth doing well. Anchor every meal around a protein source, aim for a consistent daily target, and lift a couple times a week so your body has a reason to keep the muscle you have. The medication handles appetite. Protein and training handle the quality of your results.
