Well. As it goes on every ranch: you have good days, you have bad days, and then you have days like today. A day that makes you question everything.

Fiora: We had our wonderful vet out to get a biopsy/needle aspirate of Fiora’s eye as well as an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy. The machine was unable to get a picture for part of her anatomy, but the images we were able to see showed no fetus. We took blood to confirm if there is or isnt a pregnancy. While we are happy for her to be healthy…we’d be lying if we didnt admit our heartbreak when we had truly anticipated a cute little baby soon. Now we wait for the bloodwork and biopsy results on her eye. While sedated she was able to get all her feet done☺️

Cadence: good news! the vet is happy with his slow and steady weight gain! We were able to get his feet done and were super happy to learn his feet look great🤞🏻

Indy: sad news again, our sweet and beautiful momma-to-be has unfortunately lost her baby. During the last ultrasound, we were able to see the fetus but unable to hear a heartbeat (she was VERY early along). It is entirely possible she lost it prior to the auction and kill pen and we caught the images at the tail end of it. Our heartbreak is profound 💔 she also got her feet trimmed, which her front will unfortunately require a few trims before she is comfortable.

Merlin the sheep and Louis the Goat: both lost their manhood today and are extremely unpleased about it🥜

We want to give a huge shout out to Brad and Lisa for donating this very gently used generator to the rescue!! Our fear of losing power and not being able to fill our troughs or soak feed for our harder keepers is gone thanks to them!! (We always had a backup plan to ensure the horses never went without water, but it is very labor intensive and time consuming as we’ve had to do it in the past).
We cannot thank you both enough for this incredible gift and the amount of worry you have eliminated from our minds when bad weather hits!!

🎉🩷 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BEST FRIEND, MY RIGHT HAND, MY PARTNER IN CHAOS, AND THE REASON I’LL PROBABLY BE BALD BY 40 — VICTORIA! 🩷🎉

There are some people who come into your life and simply become a part of it… and then there are people like Victoria, who somehow become woven into just about every single part of it.

You’re not only my best friend. You’re my right hand, the VP of Fortify Ranch, my voice of reason (sometimes 😅), my partner in every ridiculous idea, every rescue mission, every adventure, every “this probably isn’t a good idea, but let’s do it anyway” moment… and quite possibly the only person crazy enough to dive headfirst into this life right beside me. 😂

Where most people see an obstacle, you see an opportunity.

Where most people would say, “Ashlee, absolutely not,” you usually say, “Okay, but hear me out…” which is precisely why neither one of us should be left unsupervised.

You have stood beside me through some of the highest highs and lowest lows. You’ve celebrated the wins, cried through the heartbreaks, helped carry the weight when rescue life felt impossibly heavy, and jumped straight into the chaos whenever an animal needed us — usually without asking nearly enough questions first. 😂

You believe in Fortify Ranch and everything we are trying to build with your whole heart. You love these animals fiercely. You show up when it’s inconvenient, exhausting, messy, heartbreaking, or completely insane. And when something goes wrong, you somehow have this ability to look at it like, “Well… I guess we’re figuring this out now.”

And we do……Together.

I genuinely don’t know what I would do without you. Actually, that’s a lie. I’d probably have more hair. 🤣

But my life would be a whole lot less fun, far less adventurous, and there would be a giant Victoria-sized hole in Fortify Ranch and in my heart.

Somewhere along the way, “best friend” stopped feeling like a big enough title for you. You became family. You became the person I know I can call when everything is falling apart, when I have another crazy idea, when I need someone to laugh with until we cry, or when I simply need someone beside me who understands this life without me having to explain it.

There are very few people I would trust to walk beside me through all of this — the animals, the rescue, the dreams, the heartbreak, the chaos and whatever adventure we somehow manage to get ourselves into next.

But I would choose you every single time. 🩷

Thank you for believing in me.
Thank you for believing in this ranch.
Thank you for loving these animals like they’re your own.
Thank you for seeing possibilities where other people see problems.
Thank you for jumping headfirst into my crazy ideas instead of talking me out of them.
And thank you for being the kind of friend who doesn’t just say, “I’m here.”

You show it.

I hope you know how loved, appreciated and incredibly important you are — not just to me, but to this entire crazy little family we’ve built.

Happy Birthday, Victoria! 🥹🩷

Here’s to another year of saving animals, chasing dreams, making questionable decisions, turning obstacles into opportunities, laughing until we can’t breathe, and giving me approximately 47 new reasons to pull my hair out. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

Wouldn’t want to do this crazy life with anyone else.

Love you forever, best friend. 🩷🌻🐴

P.S. For my birthday, I would like the remaining hairs on my head to stay exactly where they are. Please act accordingly. 😂

(End of sappy post since we all know how much you just love them 🤣😂)

Indy got a bath and fly protection for the first time! She is so sweet, willing and smart. How she ended up at a kill pen blows our mind and breaks our heart

Update on Diego -

He made it through the night without trying to lay down or roll any more!! 🙌
Ashlee checked on him around 3:15am and felt he was doing well enough to go to sleep for a little while (big mistake apparently), during which Diego Houdini’d himself out of the latched and tied corral! He then took it upon himself to find the soaking breakfast buckets and eat not one, not two but three other horses buckets of feed! 🤦🏼‍♀️
So needless to say he is back on colic watch again and is very upset with us for putting him back in time out!! But we’d rather he be mad at us than have something terrible happen to him! So for now, he will be closely monitored and we will keep sending updates to our amazing veterinarian who is our saving grace!

Huge shout out to Alexis for realizing Diego was off camera and flying over to the ranch to get him secured after not wanting to call and wake Ashlee up! We are so incredibly thankful for our village here and everything they do to help ensure these sweet souls are well taken care of!!

Please keep the prayers coming for our sweet boy!! 🩷

Please keep our sweet boy Diego in your prayers as we head to MSU. He started showing signs of colic and hasn’t pulled out of it, even after everything we’ve tried here at the ranch. Unfortunately we’re unable to find a vet that can come out as tonight is the night for colics and the ones we’ve been in contact with are on emergency calls already! 😔

Anyone else have a sheep who identifies as a dog?

08/26/2026

Hi friends! We are searching for a few things within a low budget: youth western non-barrel western saddle (12”, 13”, 14”), youth English saddle (10”-15”) and jump standards (or jump cups)

“Horses will never break your heart, only your bones. You’ve got 206 of those, all good.”

Nothing says dedication like being bruised and broken but still showing up every day for those who count on you to be there for them! 🩷

- Thank you Alexis for the matching shirts!! 😂
