Protecting nature matters. So does making sure everyone can experience it.

Individually, we can invite someone new to join us outside, share what we know about nearby parks and trails, support organizations that remove barriers to participation, and listen to people whose experiences outdoors differ from our own.

As communities, we can invest in affordable programs, accessible spaces, reliable transportation, outdoor education, and partnerships that welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Expanding access begins by recognizing that not everyone has the same path to nature and working together to create more ways in.

Join us for Grandparents Day on Sept. 26! This multi-generational community event brings seniors, youth, families, and community members together! You don’t have to be a grandparent to participate! From nature activities to arts and crafts; from a self-guided scavenger hunt to fall-themed stories, choose your own adventure (or all of them). This event is all about celebrating connection and the joy of generations coming together outside.

Caring for the environment can take all kinds of forms and some of the most powerful start with simply speaking up.

Voting. Showing up at local meetings. Writing to elected officials. Paying attention to the decisions that shape our air, water, wildlife, and open spaces. Every time we participate, we have a chance to help shape the future of the places we love and share.

In an essay for the 2026 Hale Magazine, State Senator Becca Rausch reflects on the connection between environmental stewardship and civic engagement and the impact we can have when individuals, communities, and government work together.

We’re thrilled to announce writer, speaker, community builder, and lifelong adventurer Mardi Fuller as the keynote speaker for Hale’s Fall Equinox Celebration!
In 2021, Mardi became the first known Black person to hike all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks in winter. She uses writing, speaking, and community building to advocate for racial equity and create more opportunities for people of color to experience the outdoors on their own terms.
