Every year around this time I have a visitor. Praying mantis is such a great camouflage artist. I removed this cork oak bonsai from its old pot and trimmed a bunch of branches before I realized that the tree was home to this creature.

Tylecodon wallichii is weird at baseline and is getting weirder! This is the first time it will flower for me. I’m loving the withering leaves. I especially love the spikes on the trunk where the leaves grew. Summer dormancy is here. No water now. It’s time to celebrate the ecstasy of dryness.

The flower buds on Parodia magnifica have been slowly growing for weeks. It was nice getting home from work to see this. Every day the garden is a little different different. Its just fun to watch how amazing nature can be.

Yesterday I was doing a mental inventory of specimen plants and I realized that I have seen recently. I put this beautiful creature under the shade of my Ginkgo bonsai a couple of months ago. The ginkgo is drip watered so I rarely give overhead water to that part of the bench. It was a very safe place to hide. I looked under all the figs and everywhere and had a moment of panic 😱. Then I saw it hiding in plain sight! Ugggh!!! I’m just glad I found it. I gave it shade next to big brother pannicilatus and Welwitchia Tylecodon plants. The stem looks healthy with good stress colors in the leafs ❀️

Every now and then I take a UV flashlight to the garden. Many succulents plant contain phosphorescent pigments that glow under ultraviolet light. One of the conophytums from solomon_square was particularly beautiful!
