WHAT DOES THE PROPOSED ANNEXATION ACTUALLY MEAN?
There has been a lot of discussion about the proposed West Fork annexation. With the November election getting closer, we want residents to have access to facts, maps and information about the proposal.
The proposed annexation would expand West Fork's boundaries north of the existing city limits and includes approximately 2.5 miles of the I-49 corridor and two existing interstate overpasses.
If approved, residents within the proposed area would become residents of West Fork and gain representation in City government. The City would also have municipal authority over planning and development within the annexed area, subject to applicable laws and regulations.
The City Council has also formally acknowledged concerns about maintaining the rural character and lifestyle of portions of the proposed area. Resolution No. 2026-07 identifies several issues the Council intends to consider within 90 days following the election if annexation is approved, including:
Farm-produce sales
Temporary residential use of RVs
Safe discharge of fi****ms
Responsible use of fireworks
Paved driveway requirements

📢 CITY COUNCIL ADDRESSES RURAL-LIFE CONCERNS

The West Fork City Council has heard concerns from residents and property owners in the proposed annexation area about how becoming part of the City could affect their rural way of life and use of their property.

On September 8, 2026, the City Council passed Resolution No. 2026-07, formally acknowledging those concerns and stating its intent to address several specific issues if the annexation is approved.

If annexation is approved, the Council intends to formally consider and address these matters within 90 days following the election:

🚐 Temporary RV Living — including seasonal workers, visiting or extended family, and temporary housing while building a permanent residence.

🔫 Safe Discharge of Fi****ms — reviewing current restrictions and considering reasonable provisions for lawful and responsible fi***rm use, particularly on larger or rural properties.

🎆 Responsible Use of Fireworks — considering provisions that would allow responsible use under reasonable conditions.

🚗 Paved Driveway Requirements — considering exceptions, alternative materials or modified standards, particularly for larger lots, agricultural properties and rural properties.

🌽 Farm-Produce Sales — considering provisions allowing property owners and agricultural producers to sell farm-produced goods from their property, roadside stands or other appropriate locations.

Residents Will Have a Voice

The resolution also states that the Council intends to provide opportunities for residents and property owners within the annexed area to offer comments and recommendations as these issues are considered.

It is important to note: Resolution 2026-07 does not immediately change any existing City ordinance. Any changes would require the appropriate public and legislative process.

The purpose of the resolution is to formally document the City Council's current intent and identify the rural and quality-of-life issues it has committed to consider if the annexation is approved.

at 262 W. Main Street, for a regular monthly meeting. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
