Sometimes the most effective mental performance strategies are the simplest ones. This baseball player and I developed a specific batting routine he could use every time he stepped up to the plate. Within just a few games, he came back and told me, “I can’t believe how well this worked.”

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. No overthinking. No complicated process. Just a simple routine that helped him know exactly where to put his focus before each at bat.

As he started using it, he even adjusted some of the language to make it feel more natural to him. Because the goal isn’t for an athlete to memorize words. The goal is to help them build a routine that works so well for them that they can confidently say:

“𝓘’𝓶 𝓭𝓮𝓯𝓲𝓷𝓲𝓽𝓮𝓵𝔂 𝓴𝓮𝓮𝓹𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼 𝓯𝓸𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻.”

That’s what mental performance training should do. Give athletes practical tools they can actually use when they compete.

If your athlete struggles with confidence, overthinking, pressure, or staying focused during competition, this is exactly what I help athletes learn to manage. Send me a DM to learn more about working together.

He was already committed to play college baseball, but his senior season wasn’t going the way he expected. Eventually, he told himself: “𝐈’𝐦 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧.”

Sounds like good advice. Except it wasn’t working. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡. He didn’t have a system for handling what was happening mentally when he competed. His confidence was tied to results. He was focused on outcomes. And when things went wrong, he didn’t have a consistent way to reset.

Ⓢⓞ ⓦⓔ ⓦⓞⓡⓚⓔⓓ ⓞⓝ:
→ A consistent pre-performance routine
→ Visualization before competition
→ Focusing on controllable cues
→ Resetting after mistakes and bad at-bats
→ Shifting from “I need to perform well” to executing the next pitch

Over time, he stopped trying to force confidence and started relying on a mental system he could trust. That’s the difference between telling an athlete to “just be confident” and teaching them HOW to compete with confidence. Mental performance is a skill—and just like hitting, throwing, or fielding, it can be trained.

If your athlete struggles with confidence, overthinking, pressure, or bouncing back from mistakes, that’s exactly what I help athletes learn to manage.

It's amazing how many people think they work hard. Until they meet people who work harder. Then you hear the excuses...and fear...and lack of drive & motivation.

But I will tell you with 100% certainty I will work harder. And I believe in the value of teaching athletes how to WORK HARDER.

I believe in a "never finished" mentality...or growth mindset if you will. There is always another goal, another challenge, another opportunity. To some this may sound exhausting or unsatisfying, or "lacking balance"... but I don't actually care. Because this has to do with ME, MY MENTALITY, MY GOALS & WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY.

Sometimes I feel like I am living in a completely different world than others. But then I realized I just have a different world view, and that is OK. Different is OK.

But this is why I am passionate in helping athletes unlock their potential ...by helping them truly develop different & challenging perspectives on life that will make them better. Not by having a "better world view" ... but by establishing THEIR OWN UNIQUE world view. How they get to experience being an athlete and how they view goal setting, challenges, setbacks, opportunities.

Having athletes be able to learn to think for themselves by understanding how to approach and be prepared for life & sport challenges, staying calm & in control under pressure, developing resilience & mental toughness, being intentional with their decisions... that is what helps athletes create their true identity.

Being "in the zone" isn't just luck, it's something you can train for through mental preparation. Athletes who consistently perform their best use routines, focus, and mindset work to get there again and again. The more you practice these mental skills, the more control you have over showing up strong, even under pressure.
