Art experiences ripple outward. The confidence, relationships, and habits of participation built within our walls do not stay confined to a single room.
Instead, they carry over into our neighborhoods and daily lives, enriching the world around us.
Through our public art projects and community partnerships, we aim to bring creativity directly into the broader community. We believe that when one person finds their creative voice, the impact is felt by everyone.
Visit chaw.org to see our upcoming community events and find out how we are bringing the arts to the streets of DC.

Featured Artwork:
Entre Lucha y Ternura, by Itayu Torres Martinez
“The daughter rests her body beside her mother as an act of trust, intimacy, and continuity. Her posture suggests surrender and comfort, an ease that comes from being held within a relationship shaped by care and inheritance. Positioned lower, she becomes both protected and grounded, symbolizing how identity is rooted in those who come before us. The mother remains upright, a steady presence, holding space while the daughter leans into that foundation. Together, their bodies create a quiet dialogue of dependence and strength, reflecting how love, memory, and culture are passed gently, through closeness, across generations.”
