We asked Kiki Iriafen how the Mystics season-long mantra of togetherness and toughness helped them reach the playoffs.

Iriafen said that bond has helped them recenter, support one another and find ways to win.
We asked Shakira Austin about the importance of finishing the regular season strong now that the Mystics have clinched a playoff spot.
“We want to be able to start peaking now.”
Austin said Washington knows the identity it needs to win, and now it’s about getting back to it and carrying that formula into the postseason.

After some tough late-game losses earlier this season, Washington has continued to show its resilience. Sunday night was another example. The Mystics entered the fourth quarter trailing, rallied past Portland and clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2023.

“I wouldn’t say they did anything extraordinary that we couldn’t adjust to. I think it was just us. We didn’t do what we needed to do.”
