As we officially close out our Spring/Summer baseball seasons, I leave you with this picture as a reminder what Little League Baseball is all about.

To set the stage:

Semi final playoff game between the Red Sox & Cubs. Mid inning pitching change in a 15-4 game. I’ve seen players get together on the field and chat while a pitcher warms up but I can’t say I’ve ever seen all 7 fielders and 3 baserunners meet at 2nd base to hang and share a few laughs before play resumes.

Based on the photo there are two things that jump out at me: I have no clue who is winning the game and although I wasn’t there, I can all but guarantee these kids are not talking about baseball.

Competition is real and these players do want to win. But before that, they’re friends, classmates, teammates, and most important, kids. Nothing more than a stop along their journey as they continue to grow. And hopefully they keep a few memories of playing down West St with them.

Congratulations to our 10A & 12A Teams for both winning Colonial League Championships!

Walpole Little League decided to make a change and join the Colonial this summer and we’re happy to have competed at all levels and have the opportunity to showcase what Walpole Baseball is all about!

As the 12s were making a run through sectionals (fell short in extra innings), we had our 8yr olds take home the Bayuk National Division Championship in the Friendship League.

Walpole “Orange” team defeated an undefeated Newton team 8-0 behind strong pitching and only allowing 2 hits between Kevin C and Patrick O. They combined for 17 K’s & Kevin threw an “immaculate inning” in 5th with 9 straight strikes and 3 K’s.

The boys jumped out in the 1st inning to an early lead of 6-0 and never looked back. Great team energy & support of their teammates all game.

Still waiting for the Needham Police Department to wish Walpole Little Leagues 12s good luck in today’s Sectional Championship.

After all, Walpole’s Head Coach, Mike Schlittler, is a Needham PD Detective, and younger/not as good looking/less charismatic brother of Chief John Schlittler. So wishing him the best is only right.

I don’t know where Leo is right now, but I feel safe in assuming he’s just as upset about this as we are!

Walpole defeated Melrose 15-5 after 5 innings. Win tonight and play for the State Championship
