The Livewire Classic is the fastest race of the year and brings out bigger numbers of racers. 14 racers in the Sport Men 40+ and 55 racers in the Sport Men 14-17 for giordano otsuka🫶🫧✨. The windy conditions proved to be challening in practice and come race time.
The series ends with Karpiel next weekend, which is probably the slowest race of the year. And, the Northstar California Resort Bike Park closes for the season on the 27th.
Here’s to cherishing the last couple of weekends of riding the big bikes.

Race pics from the 3rd race of the Northstar DH Series from a couple of weeks ago. Sticks and Stones is one of the best courses to race with plenty of techy rock sections that still let you haul, more loose turns than you could want, drops and jumps, and some flow. It’s no wonder the race that shares our name is one of our favorites.

The Livewire Classic is the fastest race of the year, even with howling wind conditions. The unpredictable gusts caught me a couple of times in practice which added a bit of extra stress for racers. My strategy was to stay low and keep the tires on the ground as much as possible and pedal whenever I could. The Northstar series ends in 2 weeks with Karpiel, which is one of the most challenging courses.

‘Cross is coming and the CX rig is ready. Challenge Tires tubulars are glued on the race wheels and back up wheels. Bar are wrapped in new bar wrap. Because, the season can’t start on old bar wrap. And, a new SRAM Road Force XPLR drivetrain has been installed with wireless AXS shifting. New BB and headset bearings installed.
The upcoming season is loaded with races. Especially, with no overlapping races between Sacramento Cyclocross and Bay Area Super Prestige. Starting late September, Bay Area locals can race almost every weekend between the 2 series.

Sticks and Stones race run for DH Race #3 of the Northstar California Resort DH Series. Sticks is a physically demanding course and the trail conditions spiced it up a level. It’s fast in sections with plenty of tech that is looking to kill any momentum racers have.
This race run was good for P5 in a STACKED field. Proud of giordano otsuka🫶🫧✨ for having a good run that beat me by 7 seconds.

July is pretty much over, which means ‘Cross Season must be close. Performing the lost art of gluing tubulars for cyclocross racers. Tubulars provide unrivaled performance and grip, especially in ‘cross racing. Those in the know are getting their tires mounted now. Why? Because it takes 7 days to remove old tires, remove the old glue, stretch the new tubulars and 3 days to glue the rims and tires.

Boondocks Race Run. I was GASSED at the finish line. Boondocks tested not only the bodies and minds, but the bikes, too. The Northstar Downhill Series ramps up the intensity with Sticks and Stones next, followed by Liverwire, then the ultimate test with Karpiel.

We quickly switched gears from short track XC racing to DH racing. Giordano and Littles coming into the finish of the Boondocks race for race #2 of the Northstar California Resort Downhill Series. Boondocks is a longer race that tests the entire fitness package. These last 2 drops into the finish are terrifying! They’re blind and fast when simply holding on to the bars is challenging. Congrats to all the racers for getting themselves and their bikes across the finish line.
