Belt progression, being one of the hottest, and most debated topics in martial arts, can be difficult for many to understand. You definitely don’t have to be a competitor to compete, however stepping out there, and testing yourself against another prepared opponent, can be a great representation of skill and the ability to execute under pressure. Results don’t lie. Do you need to be a competitor to earn your belt? Yes you do, but not in the traditional sense. You should be competing against yourself to beat the crap out of the person you were last year, day in and day out. You should do things that make you uncomfortable all the time. We don’t grow when we’re comfortable. We are most motivated by pain. Warriors will grow when the flames come up. Live your life this way, including your martial arts journey, and the belts well definitely change color along the way.
