Most people drop their hands after they punch.

After you throw, your hand comes back to your face. Every time. No exceptions. Dropping it gives them a free shot at your head. Beginners, just focus on getting the combo done. Once you have the mechanics, then start obsessing over the details. We're talking hands not even 3 inches off your face.

Live resistance from day one. Start for $45/week. Link in bio.

You do not learn to stop backing up by talking about it.

We put you against the wall. You cannot retreat. That is the whole drill. When leaving is not an option, you have to solve the problem in front of you instead of drifting backward out of it.

Yes, you get hit. That is why we go light. The goal is not to hurt each other, it is to build the habit of holding your ground under pressure.

You get good at not running away by not running away.

There is not one perfect entry.

If someone swings a knife or a bat, standing outside and admiring the problem gets you hit. You have to get inside the arc.

Once you are inside, you connect to the weapon-bearing arm. Elbow goes underneath, that works. Wrap over the top, that works too. The exact entry is loose. The principle is not.

Get inside. Connect. Stop the swing from continuing.

That is why we train live movement instead of memorizing one static answer. The attack does not cooperate, so your training should not pretend it will.

Most self-defense content hands you a hundred techniques.

That's the problem. Under stress nobody can pick one.

We built the opposite. A free series, shaped around what you'd actually do.

No call attached to it.

The series is heavily inspired by ShivWorks. Managing Unknown Contacts is Craig Douglas's curriculum, and it's the best material out there for this. Go follow .

Comment ATM and I'll send it over.

If you don't trust yourself to keep your finger off the trigger, why would I trust you to flip a safety before you holster?

Same problem. The safety doesn't fix it.

That said, if your gun has one, engage it when you carry.

And know this: if you've never been to an ECQC, that safety can engage itself in the holster. You pull the gun and it's on.

So practice engaging and disengaging it. Otherwise you pull, you press, and it goes click.

Most classes end and everyone walks out.

We stop and get in a circle.

Everyone names what they learned, what worked, and what didn't.

The losses are the useful half.

You build courage by losing. That's why we make people say it out loud.

Real violence does not happen in a gym.

It happens in parking lots. Apartment complexes. Gas stations. Ordinary moments in ordinary places, with no mats, no referee, and nobody keeping it fair.

So that is what we prepare you for. Not a ring fight you will almost certainly never have.

Building capable, competent people doesn't stop at the gym door.

Weather. Camping trips. Learning to hunt. A little survival work. And shooting.

That's Katalyst Outdoors. It's an idea we have going forward, and we're starting to integrate it slowly into what we already do here.

Saturday at the range in Doswell was the first real piece of it.

Follow along if you want to see where this goes.

Most people worry about getting dragged.

A bear hug is for one of three things. Dragged away. Picked up and slammed. Or held in place while somebody else does the damage.

Dragged is bad, but it isn't instantly injurious. You have time, at least a little, to work the problem.

Picked up is different. There is no great solution once you are in the air.

The third one is the weapon problem. Held still while someone else works.

Know which one you are in. That decides what you do about it.

Want to train it? DM us BEARHUG and we'll get you started.

Israelis generally carry with one not in the chamber, and they move around like that.

The reason is what they see themselves as. Active shooter response, not someone carrying a weapon to deter a crime against their own person.

So if they hear a stabbing reported, or people screaming, they figure they've got time. Bring the gun up, rack.

I don't agree with it. But their mindset is very different as to why they'd conceal carry a pistol.

It's also not a civilian thing over there. Only certain ranks in the Israeli army can carry a concealed pistol at all.

Same gun, different job. That's the mindset difference.
