We are a 501(c)(3) providing Adaptive / Therapeutic Horsemanship to Veterans, First Responders, and individuals with additional physical, mental, or social / emotional needs. We are a newly established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and PATH International Member Center making horsemanship accessible to individuals with additional physical, mental, or social / emotional needs. We serve youth and adults, Veterans, and First Responders, helping them achieve their therapeutic goals through engagement with equine partners under the supervision of a PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.

Sometimes, the most productive rides are the ones when we struggle or when the ride we planned isn't the one we experienced. Working through those struggles, not allowing them to frustrate us, and then ending in a good place, greatly enhances our communication and our bond with our horse.

Eagle really made John work for it this evening. He wanted to be with his buddies, and he wanted his dinner. At one point, John leaned in toward Eagle's ear and said, "We've got to figure this out buddy. We need to just work through it." And they did.

No matter the discipline, no matter the horse, and no matter the rider - there are going to be rides when one or the other just isn't feeling it. But quitting on our equine partners isn't an option. We work through it, and then we celebrate the win when we get back on the same page. At the end of the lesson, we asked John how he felt. "Successful," he replied.

Just finished a 4x8 "trail bridge" for the arena. It's solid, and weighs about 150 pounds, so we'll move it with the tractor after we drag the arena tomorrow for our lessons.

The wood is wet from the rain today, and it doesn't feel slippery at all. But I've seen recommendations for grit paint, shingles, and rubber mats as surface materials. What do you think?

We added a mail box to the arena today! Special thanks to Susanne Stover for donating the Pony Express game! The envelopes are made from durable plastic and each has dressage letters and addresses that match the cones around the arena. This is going to be fun!!

Megan and Roxy enjoyed a beautiful evening ride, with a Stop / Go game and a spelling game using the dressage letters. We focused on balance and posture as well as coordinated use of the reins, legs and verbal cues. Each lesson builds on the skills learned during the last, requiring multi-tasking through one challenge while having to think ahead and prepare for the next.

Andrea demonstrated some strong skills today with Eagle, bending through turns and smooth, fluid movement through the pattern. They were completely in sync, and the ride felt effortless. And, once again, we were treated to beautiful skies after a brief rain shower this afternoon.
