Most young pitchers try to throw harder with their arm. The real velocity is in their hips. ๐ฅ
๐ Comment "NECO" and I'll send you the details on a 1-on-1 evaluation with him.
That's my son working with Coach Neco on hip and shoulder separation, one of the biggest keys to throwing with power.
Neco's cues:
๐น Let gravity take you down while you stay back on your back leg
๐น Keep the shoulders closed, still looking back
๐น Front foot down, create separation, THEN fire
When the hips open and the shoulders stay closed, the body loads up like a rubber band.
Without that, kids muscle the ball with their arm. That costs velocity and puts stress on the elbow and shoulder.
Neco doesn't do cookie-cutter lessons. Every pitcher starts with an evaluation so he can see what THAT athlete needs. Separation was my son's focus. Your pitcher's might be completely different.
Neco throws 96 mph and built that velocity step by step. He's gone 6 innings with 7 Ks against the No. 1 seed in the NAIA postseason and has 119 strikeouts across 28 college starts.
