Here to help 🫡 I was trained by the best of the best in retail customer service - working at Nordstrom in the early 2000’s.

I always reflect on those experiences and the high standards that Nordstrom upheld back then. You felt like you MATTERED as a customer. (They could have really done something about that horrific dressing room overhead 5000kelvin lighting but we’ll save that for another story.)

As a boutique - it’s imperative to me that you feel good in our space since a lot of the times it’s just gonna be you and one of our sales associates in there!

That being said, you can always let us know if you were in your feels about a bad experience or good experience! I’d love to know ✨

The Tiki team will forever be in flux as these gals go on to college, move to a new town, get married, have kids, land their dream jobs…in our store meetings I find myself giving speeches that include sentences like:

“The customer service techniques you learn and practice here will be useful to you your whole life.”
“Growth is uncomfortable, the only way to the other side is through.”
“The job is to make people feel seen, welcome and connect with them.”

Every day the shop team pulls a “customer service/conversation starter” from a jar and they practice the prompt that’s written on it - at the end of the shift they send me a voice note about how they connected with a customer thanks to the convo starter. Simple things like giving genuine compliments, asking someone’s name, putting extra clothes in a customer’s room.

Implementing ice breaker moments come more naturally to some - even I have to push myself to make a connection on a busy day in the store and my to do list is 10 miles long, but when I do I always think to myself - wow, this is such a fun job, all we are really doing is helping people feel good whether it be through a new outfit or just the fun of yapping about travel, food, the weather, anything!

These CONNECTIONS are what having a retail shop in your hometown downtown is all about and is what makes us all closer as community members - it’s a ripple effect of good vibes.

Some come see us and let’s play dress up and talk about our favorite burritos and places to get coffee and what color your nail polish is.

My current faves on rotation - I dress for my lifestyle - momming, running around from my house to our warehouse to the shop, lifting grocery bags and a five year old, yet always trying to look cute for whenever a customer may be spying my fit in the wild from afar 🤪 plus I like feeling put together AND comfortable to do all the things!

I know a lot of you have been following along on my journey of re-invigorating Tiki Girl this year. Leveling up in a way I have tried to do before, but can never seem to hold onto - the momentum stagnates and I have to shift focus cus life deals hands that have to be attended to in the midst of my grand dreams of growth - great amazing things and wild never thought this would happen things HAPPEN - like a city widefire, a pandemic, getting married then having a newborn - LIFE.

Whilst fully committing and throwing myself into the ever changing demands of the social media gods at the beginning of the year - as I often work up the mental stamina to do every six months - I had a revelation…

I could put allll of my creative energy into making content that gets eyeballs on us as a boutique OR I could take some of that creativity (that I live for btw) and make something really special.

I often hear that a successful business fills a hole in the market. Well, I’ll tell you what, from Day 1 as a shop owner I’ve had a running list of products I would love to see my vendors create. Including but not limited to: more bra friendly styles, extended sizing beyond S-L, clothes without cutouts, incredible basics and great denim!

While I sometimes get lucky and happen upon brands that check some of these boxes, I still find myself longing for the designs that live in my head to live on my shelves.

That brings me to 3 months ago when I decided enough was enough. My son is now 5 and I have found a few more hours in my week to re-visit my pre-pandemic dream of creating clothes that I know my customers will love and appreciate 🫶🏼 and ones that fill in those holes in my offerings at Tiki Girl!

Dearest - beautiful clothes for real life will be debuting in a few short weeks 🪡 made in LA, 100% cotton and a few styles for the littles. Can’t wait to share with you!
