Started a new project this week. Modernizing the beam hold down bolts. Replacing the old aluminum nut holders with 316 stainless steel material that are them selves the nut. much simpler design. It's almost impossible to prevent the old aluminum bits to not corrode wit out having then anodized. I approached two anodizing shops back when I built the parts and they would not take the job because it was for a boat and subject to salt water. The beam recess collects dirt like crazy. It will all be shiny white when It's all back together.

Had an interesting problem with the battery charging system. battery #2 died, it would not take a charge. volt meter showing zero volts on both house batteries. Found the charge level indicator light on the AC charger were flashing randomly. there was no charging voltage present no current. So i fired up the engine to try and charge them from the alternator. Battery 2 was sucking a LOT of current from the alternator but would not come up above 9 volts battery #2 died, it would not take a charge. Replaced that battery. Pulled the charger out and got it to the shop (my garage). thought there might be a cold solder pad that failed due to engine vibration. The soldering (probably wave soldered) on the main board where the brain of the charger is located looked a little cold and sort of grainy. I reheated every pad on the 3X3 inch corner of the board. Reassembled it and connected it up for a test run. It booted itself up and it goes through a little startup routine and was stable and charging properly. It's reinstalled back in the boat. looks like it's working properly. I'll go back and check it out Monday, crossing my fingers.......
