8th grade volleyball falls to North Branch

8th Grade Volleyball fell to North Branch 25–18, 25–7. The girls battled through a tough match and continue to improve each game. Despite the loss, there were several standout stats: Maycie Sweat had an ace, a kill, and a dig. Zoie Martin recorded 2 aces and a dig. Kiersten Rondo had 2 aces, Eva Gomez added 2 aces and a dig, and Morgan Clouse recorded 2 digs.

Varsity Football wins over Reese
Friday night Vassar’s varsity football team trailed 18-12 at the half but the defense held Reese to no points in the second half while the offense scored 34 straight points to win 46-18. Scoring for the Vulcans was Madix Gorleski on runs of 74 and 4 yards, Carmelo Poe with a 14 yard run and Blake Karr with a 5 yard run. Madix threw for 3 touchdowns which included a 19 yard reception by Cole Nickerson, a 17 yard reception by Blake and a 26 yard reception by Kris Cerda. Carmelo and Madix each recorded 2 point conversions.

For the game, Madix completed 13 of 25 passes for 151 yards and had 12 carries for 120 yards rushing. Blake had 12 carries for 68 yards rushing, Kris had 3 catches for 48 yards and Carmelo had 4 catches for 32 yards. Defensively the team held the Rockets to 36 total yards in the second half. For the game Gary DeKalita led the way on defense with 14 tackles followed up by Cole Nickerson with 9 and Gaven Kilgore with 8. Nick Folino had 2 sacks, Carmelo and Gaven each had an interception and Wyatt Smith recovered a fumble.



Next week Vassar travels to Laker for a 7:00 game.

In remembrance of 9/11, SRO Mroz and Vassar Firefighter Zach Wegrzyn were honorary captains last night at the varsity football game vs Reese. The Vulcans thank you for your service!
