We are saddened to share that our dear friend Richard Rancourt passed away last week. Richard was a beloved part of Open House Ministries for 30 years. He was always willing to help in any way he could. His primary responsibilities included keeping our campus safe and secure, as well as working the front desk during the night shift.
Throughout his many years of service at OHM, you could often see Richard walking the campus with his flashlight, performing safety and security checks. In later years, he navigated the grounds in his electric wheelchair. Many of our residents’ children loved seeing Richard out and about, knowing it meant they might get a chance to ride on his wheelchair and beep the horn.
Richard also enjoyed adventuring up to the store and returning with fried chicken to share — one of his favorite meals. He likewise made sure there was always fresh (and strong) coffee available in Grace Place for everyone.
If you had the opportunity to meet Richard, there’s no doubt you learned two things about him. First, he loved Jesus and wanted to make sure you knew that Jesus loves you. Second, he loved Open House Ministries. He considered OHM not only his home, but also his family.
Although we are deeply saddened by this great loss, we rejoice knowing he is now with his Lord and Savior, whom he loved so dearly. As plans for his memorial are finalized, we will share the details. All who wish to attend will be welcome. The service will be held on the Open House Ministries campus in the near future.
If you have photos of Richard from over the years that you would like OHM to have, please send them to Chaplain Jon Nichols at [email protected].
God Bless
