Being shy isn't necessarily a sign of low self esteem. As parents, it often makes us wonder if they have the confidence to stand up for themselves. You don't have to wonder. Martial arts teaches confidence and comportment to deal with conflict and the everyday. They don't have to shake every hand. But they need to know how to do it with confidence. Our jobs as parents and mentors are to build good and capable young people. Self-esteem gained through hard work is the way to make them capable.

Most people focus on the outcome...
Outcomes are second- and third-order effects…
Focus on the process that produces them...
Because long before anyone noticed the outcome; the process… had already begun. .acosta.jr for the quote.

Our program builds confidence. How do I know? I watch kids come in able to barely do a pushup. I watch the same kid come in and do 50 pushups as fast as they can in order to not miss the "fun stuff." I help them make the connections in their thoughts between who they were and who they are becoming. They have measurable results. They see their competence growing. They learn it's not talent. it's consistency of effort. I also think I could measure how tall and straight they stand but I haven't tried that yet.

The blade is a truth teller.

Ego tells you that you've learned enough. The blade tells you the truth, that mastery isn't a destination you reach, it's a posture you hold, one where you stay teachable no matter what your rank or status.

All people need connections. Connections to friends, family and mentors. This helps us to recharge our social batteries and gives us time to sharpen our own skills. I haven't been slacking. I have continued to build the skills and relationships that will build me and my tribe into our future.

Remote work really means: wherever the laptop fits.
Today’s office has cupholders and questionable ergonomics.

It’s never been about the stone. The stone in the wrong hand killed Abel, the stone in the right hand killed Goliath. It’s not the stone. We say we build better heroes. That means our goal is to equip people to face trials with confidence and poise. Come and meet us, try a class, and see what we have to offer.

Am I driving 30 minutes round-trip on my lunch break to get a coffee from ? Why yes, yes I am.

This was a board of jr. Black Belts. That is controversial in some martial arts circles. It is hard work and 5 years to get there. It is a little like a jr high diploma. It gives you the skills to begin learning. But more importantly it gives us a platform to focus on leadership. Confidence because they have done hard things. Service opportunities to help younger students. They become a jr coach, a young mentor and someone the kids look up to. And if we do it right, they are worth looking up to. I think so. Come by and see what you think.
