This year isn’t just Route 66’s 100th birthday — it’s Claude Neon Federal Signs’ 100th year in business, too.
The two go hand-in-hand, as Claude Neon Federal Signs is responsible for almost all of the neon signs (new and old) on Route 66 in Tulsa. All of the iconic neon you associate with the Mother Road, like Meadow Gold District | Route 66 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Circle Cinema, and The Blue Whale of Catoosa, was made by the company’s glass benders. The art is an endangered one, with the popularity of LED alternatives. But as Joe Kesterson, senior designer at Claude Neon Federal Signs, explains, the Route’s Centennial is bringing the tradition back.

Marathon this, marathon that — would you run a 3,400+ multiday footrace along Route 66? 
In 1928, about 200 runners signed up to participate in the “Bunion Derby,” a wild publicity stunt for the newly completed Route 66.

The iconic Route 66 Blue Whale in Catoosa is back and better than ever with a brand new neon sign and a new visitor center, too! The 4,000 sq. ft. center has an expanded gift shop, concession area, meeting hall, restrooms, and an event space.
