A good training room is built by the people in it.

Strong teammates. Good attitudes. Plenty of laughs.

One of the things we’re proud of at Mako is the environment we’ve built.

Good coaching isn’t always loud.

Sometimes it’s just paying attention, making small adjustments, and helping people improve one round at a time.

Coaching and competing on the same day is tough.

Add coaching your own kids into the mix, and you’re in for quite the day.

Here is Coach Chris Obeso doing his thing.

Our black belt roster at Mako runs deep, and Aaron Snitzer is the original.

Aaron has been sharing his knowledge and helping build this academy since day one.

He’s also been pushing and challenging me personally since I first walked through the doors at Undisputed over 10 years ago. Some of my toughest rounds and biggest lessons have come from training with him.

We’re fortunate to have him as part of the Mako family.

I’ve always loved when this guy shows up to share the mats and conversation.

Over the years, Mako has been fortunate to have some incredibly talented practitioners visit our academy or call our mats a second home.

One of the best things about Jiu-Jitsu is the community. Building relationships across different schools benefits everyone. It helps your personal growth, strengthens your academy, and makes Tucson Jiu-Jitsu better as a whole.

Get out there. Visit other schools. Welcome visitors into yours. Train with new people. Share ideas. Build friendships.

The more connected our community becomes, the more all of us grow.

Not every victory is measured by a gold medal.

Sometimes it’s having the courage to step on the mat.
Sometimes it’s overcoming the nerves.
Sometimes it’s raising your hand after giving your best effort.

Competition teaches lessons that carry far beyond jiu-jitsu—confidence, resilience, sportsmanship, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Proud of all of our athletes who continue to challenge themselves and grow through the process.

Great match between two friends and black belts.

One of the best parts of the jiu-jitsu community is being able to compete hard, test your skills, and then share a laugh afterward.

Proud moments in our gym's history.
September, 2022, Chris Obeso and Zach earned their black belts.
Obeso remains the staple and foundation of our 6AM classes.
Zach shows up every once in a while, beats us up then leaves.

It’s a slow process, but quitting won’t speed it up.
