Not a bad turnout today for the first event of the year. Thank you to all who shared your Saturday with us. You are 1/3 of the way to qualifying for May’s SUPER No Tap. 👍
We tried something different (handicap) for the start of this year’s series to address the last two years of very familiar faces in the roll-offs each month. The last two years the event has been scratch with non-cashers earning bonus pins after three events. It worked well, but only near the end of the series (March/April).
This 4-games event was handicapped as (210 - Book Average) x 4 and added to scratch total. Individual games were not capped at 300; series was capped at 1200 (no bowler hit 1200). The result was not as bad as it could have been. Of the seven bowlers who cashed, three had zero handicap- one of whom won the tournament.
There will be tweaks. There will be re-rating of bowlers. All will be clearly outlined prior to accepting entries for October’s edition.
Congratulations to Ray Higuera, Jr. on collecting $100 of the Strike Pot. October’s pot will start with $100. 👍
Tim Cagle II (258 - $80) bested Chris Ekstrom (171 - $50) to claim 1st in the Super Bracket. Billy Dodson ($20) and Melvin Magallanes ($10) finished 3rd/4th, respectively.
In the Survivor portion, Cagle II ($30), Jessie Hinahon ($20), and Ekstrom ($10) were your cashers.
With only three women bowling this month and the handicap component added, they agreed to roll into a single field. We need a minimum of four ladies to have their own money.
With 29 entries, seven spots cashed. Four (top 3 handicap + high scratch) advanced to determine who would win the $225 1st Place and title. Magallanes ended his tournament with his fourth 300 of the day. He was followed by Julius Batiste (244 - $140), Joel Cornelio (224 - $110), and high-qualifier, Hinahon (184 - $80). Cashers not advancing were Joseph Garcia ($55), Cagle II ($45), and Cameron Curl ($40).
