4 weeks post hip replacement!
Since announcing my surgery, I’ve had quite a few people who are facing the same thing reach out to me with questions.
If I had to pick the two things that I think have made the biggest difference in my recovery, they would be:
1. Do your physical therapy.
I haven’t missed one day of my PT exercises. Since I can’t work right now (teaching fitness), I’ve been treating my PT like it’s my job. It’s so important, and I can feel the progress each week.
2. Have a solid fitness base going into surgery.
I’ve been consistently working out for years with strength training, cardio, yoga, walking, etc. Having a strong body going into surgery has been such a huge advantage in my recovery.
I’m only 4 weeks in, which means my workouts right now are my physical therapy exercises. I’m taking it slowly, listening to my body and following my surgeon’s instructions (even though that’s tough sometimes!).
But I’m getting stronger and closer to normal every week, and this experience has reminded me once again that the work you put into your body before you need it really matters.
Build your fitness. Take care of your body. And when life throws you a curveball, you’ll be glad you did. I sure am.
