jr picked up boxing during the pandemic to get back in shape, and by may 2022 he was on his third blue collar camp.

he'll tell you the first camp lost about half its people by the halfway point, because hitting a bag for fitness is one thing and getting punched in the face is something else. what got him through all three was showing up every day and going to work, knowing the next man was working just as hard.

it starts with one morning. pre-camp is sunday, september 27 at 8am with coach pablo and coach dred. no experience needed, but you have to be registered to come, and the form is in the bio.

vicky llerena watched one of coach p's sunday classes from across the room in 2022 and thought, i can never do that.

three or four weeks later she was hooked. then she heard the guys talking about blue collar, asked coach p if women could join, and he told her it would be the first time but why not. that may she became the first woman to fight blue collar.

camp is open to everybody again this year. pre-camp is sunday, september 27 at 8am, and you don't need any experience. you do have to be registered to come, so get the form done first (it's in the bio).

Coach Ali runs our youth boxing class weekdays at 5 PM. Four years in, he has watched the same kids go from 8 years old to 12. He keeps it fun, they pick up discipline along the way, and he is on the floor with them. Bring your kid and ask at the front desk.

Friday morning on the Jacobs Ladder. He clips the belt on, somebody calls go, and the rungs keep coming for as long as he keeps climbing.

It works your whole body because your arms and legs climb together, there's no pounding on the floor, and it has no motor, so it only moves when you do. Coach Don sent this one over with three words, it's just work, and they're painted on our wall in Teaneck for mornings like this one (the front desk will get you started).

Gil Moreno is 38 and he's been boxing since his early 20s. Ask him what it gave him and he starts with finding his wife and becoming a better man, and then he gets to Different Breed, where doing it himself turned into wanting to teach it. He's a boxing trainer now and he says it has kind of consumed his life.

"Because of boxing, I'm extremely, extremely fortunate to have met some beautiful people and I owe my life to it."

frank amaya had three kids at home and a full-time job when he signed up for blue collar in 2022. it was his first camp.

he told us the part that scared him most was his family coming to watch him get punched in the face, and then having to go home and tell his kids he lost. he trained the six weeks anyway and got in the ring that may, and he said the fear ended up being the thing that pushed him.

if that's what is holding you back, frank felt it too.

pre-camp is sunday, september 27 at 8am. come meet coach pablo and coach dred and see how the six weeks run. no experience needed, but you have to be registered to come, and the form is in the bio.

Coach Carlos was pushing the class as usual, and everybody kept after it. Come get a round in with us at Full Body Igniter, Tuesdays at 6 PM. šŸ”„

Full Body Igniter is tonight, 6 PM, Coach Carlos on the floor.

Last Tuesday looked like this. Stability ball planks, med ball sit-ups, the whole line on the battle rope pulling in unison, plate raises down to the last second, and Carlos walking the turf the whole time. Both legs up and down, let's go. Look like a star, first class. Ten seconds, nine, eight, and then rest.

Forty five minutes, every muscle, and a room full of people who will not let you quit early. Grab a spot at the front desk or book through the link in bio (and get there a few minutes early to claim your patch of turf).
