Caridian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Caridian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Welcome to Caridian! We embody the laid-back lifestyles of Cariocas and Floridians alike. A lifelong athlete, Alan was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Alan established Caridian Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2020, after being laid off during Covid. He decided it was finally time to leave the corporate world to follow his dream and passion, sharing BJJ with as many people as possible. He began competitive swimming at the age of 8and at 14 was recruited to train in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He took a big leap of faith and moved to the U.S. to pursue his swimming career at just 14 years old. As a teenager, his love of coaching and teaching developed as a camp counselor during the summers teaching at various South Florida swim camps. His decision to move to the U.S. at a young age paid off when he was awarded a swimming scholarship at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. After successfully completing his undergraduate degrees and four-year collegiate swimming career, he was given the opportunity to be an assistant coach for the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams while he pursued his Masters in Business Administration. He helped coach both FSU Men’s and Women's teams to Atlantic Coast Conference Championship titles. During that time he began to dabble in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but didn’t commit to it fully until he met his professor in Lakeland, FL, Fabio Novaes in 2010. Alan has taught under Fabio Novaes since 2016. In his personal time, Alan is a committed husband and father to his beautiful wife and two sons, an avid soccer fan, and a grilling machine! You’re not supposed to be good when you start.

You’re supposed to be uncomfortable.
You’re supposed to get confused.
You’re supposed to mess it up.

That’s why you train.

Nobody walks onto the mats already knowing what they’re doing. The difference is simply who decides to come back.

You don’t have to be ready. You just have to start.

🥋 Your first class could be the beginning of something you never expected.

DM “START” to train with us at Caridian.

You won’t notice it happening.

Not in one class.
Not in one round.
Not with one win.

It happens quietly.

Every time you come back after a hard night.
Every time you get tapped and start again.
Every time you choose to learn instead of quit.

Until one day you realize—

you’re stronger.
you’re calmer.
you’re harder to break.

And somewhere along the way, Jiu Jitsu stopped being something you do…

and became part of who you are.

🥋 Stay long enough to find out.

Send this to the person you want beside you on the mats a year from now.

This stripe is so much more than a piece of tape on a belt.

The hard rounds. The days he wanted to quit but didn’t. The corrections he listened to, the mistakes he learned from, and the courage it takes to keep showing up and trying again.

And maybe the most special part is who gets to tie it on. A coach who has watched the work happen—not just the wins, but the frustration, the growth, the little breakthroughs no one else sees.

In jiu-jitsu, progress doesn’t always come with a medal or a podium. Sometimes it looks like one small stripe.

But when you know everything that went into earning it, there’s nothing small about it. 🤍

One stripe. A thousand little moments of growth. Keep going, kid. The best is still ahead. 🥋

The work isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it looks like showing up tired. Getting caught. Starting over. Drilling it again. And coming back tomorrow.

That’s where the growth happens.

No shortcuts. No secret formula. Just consistent rounds, intentional coaching, and the willingness to keep getting better.

One class won’t change your jiu-jitsu.
But enough classes will change you.

Keep showing up. The mat keeps receipts. 🥋

You don’t need to be the most athletic person in the room.
You don’t need to learn everything on day one.
You just need to keep showing up.

Coach Alan says it takes 3–6 months of consistent training before you really start to see the difference—and that’s where most people get it wrong.

They expect progress to feel obvious.

But progress is quiet.

It’s the round where you don’t gas as quickly.
The position you finally recognize.
The escape you hit without thinking.
The moment you realize the version of you who walked in months ago wouldn’t stand a chance against the version of you today.

There’s no shortcut to that.

Show up. Train. Repeat.

Give yourself 3–6 months before you decide what Jiu-Jitsu can do for you.

Consistency will take care of the rest. 🥋

There’s something special about watching someone choose to start.

White belt. New challenges. New lessons. A whole lot of mat time ahead.

Every black belt was once standing exactly here—at the beginning. The only difference is they kept showing up.

Welcome to the journey. 🥋

The work starts now. 💪🏼💚💛💙

Your toughest opponent isn’t across the mat.
It’s the version of you that looks for the easy way out.

Show up. Do the work. Win the small battles.
Every. Single. Day.

We don’t raise strong daughters by making life easy for them.
We raise them by giving them a place to discover what they’re capable of.

A place where they can struggle without quitting.
Lose without believing they’re a failure.
Be uncomfortable without running from it.
Be powerful without apologizing for it.
And learn that confidence isn’t something someone gives you — it’s something you earn.

That’s what happens on these mats.

We may be teaching them jiu-jitsu now…
but what they’re really learning is how to walk into the world knowing:

I can handle hard things.
I can protect myself.
I can trust myself.
I belong here.

Raise strong girls.
The world needs the women they’ll become. 💚

Kids don’t need more screen time. They need something real.

A place to struggle, problem solve, compete, laugh, fail, reset, and try again. A place where teammates become friends, coaches become mentors, and confidence is earned one hard round at a time.

Jiu Jitsu gives kids more than technique.

Discipline. Resilience. Confidence. Belonging.

Those lessons follow them long after they step off the mats. 💚💛💙
