Football season on your mind? Here's an incredibly chunky "football bass" to keep you in the spirit of things! Many important factors including forage size and availability determine bass growth rate — and how quickly an individual fish will reach trophy weight. This almost round football-shaped bass has obviously been eating well, and is well ahead of its normal-sized companion of almost the same length on the road to trophy status. (Fish sampled in the L-67A Canal, Broward County.)

"I was pre-fishing the Harris Chain for an upcoming tournament this weekend and decided to try a new area. I had not caught many fish all day. The sun was beating down, and it felt as hot as it has been all year. Just when I was starting to think it would be a tough day, I was given a gift — this 8.36-pound largemouth bass. Pro Tip: Quickly make sure the weight reading on the screen of an LCD scale is visible in your photo before releasing your trophy (don't keep your bass out of the water too long).

Pro Tip: If you are alone, a video that pans "from scale to tail" may be easier for documenting your catch. Make sure the scale weight is readable and that you pan all the way down to the end of the tail.
