Whose ball was this? Probably the person playing the left side of the court. Why? Because that person had just taken the shot in the middle. However, he hesitates because his partner decides to take it.

Because both forehands are in the middle it creates a little confusion. It's so important before the game to decide who's taking what in this situation. This will help eliminate some of these uncertainties.

If you're playing singles, you must play differently to doubles. Asher's third shot would have been great in doubles, but in this situation, it draws his opponent to the net and allows him time to place his next shot.

Instead he should have probably hit a backhand drive down the line. In doubles, this wouldn't work, but in singles, this forces his opponent to run and hit a backhand from deep.

When you're at the net, it's important to be patient. Anytime a volley opportunity is below the net, you're hitting up to your opponent if you attack. If they're ready, as in this case, you'll pay. Instead, a volley reset into the kitchen is probably your best option.

This is a fun game to teach basic dinking and hitting in pickleball. Simply make the court the size of the kitchen so that players must hit the ball softly. It's an excellent hand-eye coordination activity.

What do I mean by pure? They're clean. Calm feet. Calm hands. Compact swings. Maybe the guy that won the point had a swing that was a little big. But watch this a few times and appreciate quality volleying.

Especially in singles, we are trying to drive and crash the net. But we can't do that at the cost of technique. In this rally, Asher's two-handed backhand prep looks pretty good, but he doesn't establish his set position. Consequently, he doesn't drive through the ball enough and it drifts long.

We're not always going to be able to stop and hit, but we should when we can. The immediate (hitting) is more important than the future (getting to the net).

We dream of opportunities like this. Our opponent came in off their serve, had to back up, and then pops one up. What do we do? We get too excited and try to swing too hard.

That's what happens here. Instead of getting to wound up, we need to stay calm and hit a shorter punchier shot. Focus less on power and more on precision and smoothness and the ball will travel quickly, I promise you!

I'm a fan of lobbing, but it does require touch. If a lob is not both high and deep, this is the outcome.

If you are going to lob, I recommend that you do it from the kitchen line rather from the baseline. Doing it from the baseline gives your opponents more time to recover and react.
