Onslow County Schools is raising starting pay for bus drivers from $17.99 to $20 an hour as the district works to fill 76 vacant driver positions.

OCS says the shortage can leave as much as 35% of its bus fleet unused on a given day, contributing to double runs, early pickups and late drop-offs.
