โญ Tip #10 - Focus on Effort, Not Perfection

New grades. New teachers. New expectations. It's easy for kids to feel like they need to get everything right.

Remind them: We're looking for progress - not perfection.

Praise things they can control:
โญ โ€œI love how hard you worked on that.โ€
โญ โ€œYou didn't give up when it got difficult.โ€
โญ โ€œThat was really responsible.โ€
โญ โ€œI'm proud of you for trying.โ€

It's the same lesson we teach on the martial arts floor. Nobody earns a black belt by being perfect on Day 1. They earn it by showing up, learning, making mistakes, improving, and continuing.

That's a pretty great mindset to take into a new school year. ๐Ÿฅ‹๐Ÿ’š

It's awareness.

๐Ÿšช Where could I go if I felt uncomfortable?
๐Ÿง  Does something about this situation feel wrong?

Martial arts gives kids opportunities to practice paying attention to their surroundings instead of moving through the world on autopilot.
Because good self-defense isn't just knowing how to react to a problem.

It's learning to recognize a problem early enough to make a smart choice. ๐Ÿ’š

Weโ€™re excited to give a big shoutout to Amelia for some awesome accomplishments outside of the dojo! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿฅ‹

โšฝ Amelia recently earned the title of CAPTAIN of her soccer team! Being chosen as a captain is a great example of the leadership, responsibility, and teamwork she continues to show.

๐Ÿ… And thatโ€™s not all! This past summer, Amelia took 1st place in shot put at the Dane County Conference AND set a new meet record! ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŽ‰

We love seeing our students take their confidence, work ethic, and leadership beyond the martial arts floor.

Parent: โ€œHow was school?โ€

Try getting more specific!
Instead of โ€œHow was school?โ€, ask:
๐Ÿ’ฌ What made you laugh today?
๐Ÿ’ฌ What was the hardest part of your day?
๐Ÿ’ฌ Who did you sit with at lunch?
๐Ÿ’ฌ What's something new you learned?
๐Ÿ’ฌ Did you help anyone today?

Specific questions are much easier for kids to answer - and you might be surprised by the conversations they start.
