More metal than your favorite ‘80s hair band playlist! Harrison ended up as an All American in the 800, 1500, 3000 and 4x800 relay! In the 3000, he raced in the slow heat and basically soloed to a 9:35 PR, which was good for 2nd overall (including the fast heat). Way to go, Harrison!

CAMPER KUDOS: After a month of XC training at the Premier Running Camp, rising 8th grader Harrison went off to the junior olympics national track meet and PRed in both the 1500 and 800. A 4:26 1500 earned him a fourth place finish, while his 2:05 800 was good for fifth. Harrison was one of the leaders of the Advanced camp, whose participants averaged a 33 second improvement over a 1.5 mile time trial during camp.

Awesome final day of camp - time trials, relays, corn hole, ice pops and breakfast tacos! And, of course, awarding the Runners of the Year and granting scholarships to two seniors.

The ROYs were Joanna (Intro), Dakota (Intermediate) and Harrison (Advanced) and they were awarded bright yellow shirts that they can wear proudly at their upcoming workouts and races. Show up to the starting line with that shirt on and 99% of the field won’t even try to go with you!

Two scholarship winners this year: Zachary (Ridge Point High School Panther Pride) and Dylan (Austin HS). Both are headed for big things in their senior year and beyond.

Two former scholarship winners, Avrit (Needville HS, now attending UT) and Tyler (Ridge Point HS, headed to A&M in a couple of weeks) returned to be a part of the scholarship ceremony and we were excited to have them back!

Ridge Point HS becomes the first school to have two scholarship winners in camp history.

The 2027 camp will be July 5-30 and registration will be available shortly at https://premierrunningcamp.com. Love to have your child join us! The earlier you register, the more you save.

Final hill session of camp - threw in a little heat and humidity just to make it interesting. Time trial and tacos on tap for Friday - plus awards and college scholarships! Coach Brillon (formerly of Freeman HS, Mayde Creek HS and Stratford HS) talked to the kids about getting out of their comfort zones.

Final fartlek of camp today and the kids ran up and down the hills - and through the mud and water - like champs! Coach Pitzel brought three rising seniors from Tompkins HS - each of whom have run under 4:20 for 1600 meters - to speak about teamwork. Each of them help the others in workouts and meets so they all can improve. “Light someone else’s candle” as we say.

Tough hill workout this morning, followed by a great chat about commitment from Coach Julie Yeager! Everybody ran hard. Lee commented that after a few weeks of working hard, he just ran his best mile ever! That’s what it’s all about!

Repeat 200s on the grass today - kids found out that a “sprint” workout can still wear you out. Kudos to Coco and Dylan for being true to their rest even on a hot and humid day! Alyssa Balandran talked to the kids about how they could SHINE and maintain positivity even when things don’t seem to be going their way.

Exactly halfway through camp today: two weeks down and two weeks to go! Nike stopped by today with some super cool shoes and spikes for the kids to test out during the workout. Several purchased their spikes right on the spot, and I’ve already gotten a couple of calls from parents wanting to come by the store to get a pair of Nike Dragonfly XC 2 spikes for this fall! Picture is the calm before the storm…

Wednesdays mean hills - even if there’s mud and water at the bottom of the hill. Hard work all around today. Spotlight on Musab, who’s working hard in his first camp and getting better every day despite a troublesome ankle. University of St. Thomas head coach Walt Yarrow spoke to the kids about time management- very important for young distance runners. Nike stops by on Friday for our fartlek workout - plus a bunch of fun and games!
