3 strength moves every woman over 40 needs.

Goblet squat-builds the leg and glute strength that gets you up off the couch, out of a chair, off the toilet, without thinking twice about it. Modification: no weight, or use a chair to guide you down and back up.

Shoulder press-most women stop pressing anything overhead somewhere in their 30s and don’t even notice. This is the one that keeps you reaching that top shelf without a second thought. Modification: seated, if standing balance isn’t there yet.

RDL-strengthens your hamstrings, glutes, and lower back, the muscles that protect you every time you bend down to pick something up. Modification: a good morning, or the same movement with no weight at all.

Save it. You’ll want these moves later.

I trained for 30 years and still could not figure out why my stomach wasn’t changing.

Turns out I was missing one thing.

Strength train consistently.

Eat enough protein.

Know your calorie budget.

That last one changed everything for me.

I thought I was eating fine. I wasn’t. Once I understood how much my body actually needed, the stomach started to go down.

Save this and start with whichever one you’re missing.

Three days ago I crossed the finish line at the Peachtree Road Race for the fourth year in a row, and I did it at 53, postmenopausal, running stronger than I did in almost every year before it.

People ask me all the time how I keep showing up, and the truth is there’s no secret to hand over. No magic plan hiding behind a paywall. I just show up, week after week, mile after mile, meal after meal, and I let that be enough.

That’s the whole idea behind my new challenge.
