Today’s CCSU Women’s Soccer game was about more than what happens on the field. We dedicated this match to mental health awareness and will honor the lives and legacies of two incredible student athletes: Morgan Rodgers and Katie Meyer.
We are proud to support Morgan’s Message, an organization founded in the name of a former Duke University lacrosse player, Morgan Rodgers, who died by su***de in 2019 after battling mental health challenges. This foundation’s mission is to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and to ensure that mental health is treated equally to physical health for all student-athletes.
We also stand with Katie’s Save, a movement honoring the life of Stanford Women’s Soccer goalkeeper, Katie Meyer, who lost her life to su***de in 2022. Katie’s Save works for systematic changes in higher education to promote mental health, protect students, and prevent su***de.
Mental health struggles are far more common than we realize, yet fear of judgment keeps too many suffering in silence. We honor Morgan and Katie by breaking that silence: checking on our teammates, speaking up when we need support, and proving that asking for help is a strength, never a weakness.
Please visit our awareness table near the entrance for information on both organizations, as well as 24/7 mental health and wellness resources available right here at Central.
Thank you for standing with us today.
