Rising Fist Martial Arts Instructing kids and adults in the martial arts in Stanhope, Northwestern NJ!

Rising Fist Martial Arts is about many things, but most of all, it's about bringing powerful martial arts techniques from across centuries together into one, cohesive, combat art. We teach traditional Isshinryu Karate, along with elements of Judo, western grappling styles, and Okinawan Kobudo as a cohesive whole. Our mission is to bring these arts to the masses, teaching self defense, imbuing our students with self confidence, and helping everyone who walks into our dojo to leave it more prepared to take on whatever the world throws at them.

Happy Birthday to Grandmaster Tatsuo Shimabuku, the founder of Isshin-ryu Karate!

Today, we honor the legacy of a true martial arts pioneer who blended the strength of Shorin-ryu and Goju-ryu to create Isshinryu karate.

From Okinawa to the rest of the world, Sensei Shimabuku’s dedication, wisdom, and innovative vision shaped generations of martial artists.

Thank you for teaching us that true strength comes from an open heart, a focused mind, and relentless practice.
Rest in peace, Master. Your legacy lives on in every kata, bow, and belt on the dojo floor.

In the Dojo, Rank Is the Goal but Growth Should Be The Focus.

One of the most powerful lessons in martial arts is that everyone has something to teach. A black belt can learn from a white belt, and a white belt can inspire a black belt.

Every class, every drill, every partner reminds us that progress comes from staying open, curious, and humble. When we train together, we grow together. No matter what color belt is around our waist.

Keep learning. Keep improving. Keep lifting each other up.
That’s the spirit of the dojo.

2026 Karate Camp is in the books!
What a fantastic week watching the students and teachers alike work together for one purpose and that is to be better then we were yesterday.

Thank you to Jersey Judo Karate Academy Hanshi Norris and Mrs. Norris for their dedication to the martial arts and love for the students.
It is truly an honor being part of such an incredible organization.

That’s a wrap on classes as we approach Karate Camp 2026!

What you may not know is that two of the ladies in this photo are going to attempt one of the most difficult but one of the most rewarding challenges they may face and that is going for their Black Belts.
