We are so proud to celebrate one of our own.

RJ., a graduate of Saint Mary's South Side Catholic High School and caddie at Sunset Country Club, has been awarded the Evans Scholarship. This is a full housing and tuition college grant valued at more than $125,000 over four years.

The Evans Scholarship is one of golf's most prestigious honors, awarded to caddies who demonstrate an outstanding caddie record, excellent academics, financial need, and exceptional character. Nine Missouri caddies earned the scholarship this year, and RJ is among them.

RJ has been part of First Tee β€” Greater St. Louis community since he was 7, and he currently gives back as a junior coach.

This is exactly the kind of young person First Tee – Greater St. Louis exists for. Congratulations! We will be cheering for you every step of the way. πŸ’š

Research shows that kids who have a trusted adult coach in their corner are more likely to speak up for themselves, build resilience, and carry those lessons into adulthood. 90% of parents call coaches the unsung heroes of youth development.

At First Tee – Greater St. Louis, our volunteer coaches are exactly that.

Our volunteers are mentors to these kids. They are the people who show up every session for kids who need a steady, caring adult in their corner. They help participants navigate frustration on the course, and in doing so, teach them how to handle it everywhere else in life too.

Never picked up a golf club? You can still be exactly the parent your junior golfer needs.

First Tee parents who don't play golf bring something unexpected to the table: they let their child be the expert. When kids explain the rules, walk a parent through their swing, or describe what they worked on at practice, they're building confidence and communication skills right alongside their golf game.

First Tee has coaches for the golf. What your child needs from you is a supporter who shows up, asks good questions, and makes it clear that who they are matters more than any score.
