Jordan Salinas was no ordinary citizen.
An ordinary citizen doesn't train for the day they pray never comes.
An ordinary citizen is not comfortable with violence. They live in denial of anything bad happening.
Jordan defied everything that makes a citizen ordinary by today's standards. He didn't pick up his phone to record an atrocity, he picked up the tool of violence to engage an evil person who expected the "ordinary citizen" to be an easy target.
In a world of ordinary citizens choose to be an "extraordinary citizen".

When we look at the science behind gunfighting, the average time it takes an officer to draw the handgun from a level II security holster and fire their first round is 1.5 seconds (1.7 seconds for a level III holster). In that amount of time, the offender has been able to fire between 6 and 8 rounds.
Most departments and trainers get stuck in a rut of doing things because that's the way we've always done it or blaming it on safety concerns (keeping fi****ms training separated from combatives training). Statistics reveal that police officers are more likely to be shot/killed in ambush style attacks. I would argue that nearly every attack on an officer is an ambush style attack.
An ambush is the fight you didn't see coming and the bad guy knows they have the advantage when they initiate the attack, and so do we, so why then, are we not incorporating more scenario based training in our training curriculums? Many would argue, budget, safety, coverage, etc. While that may be a good reason from the perspective of the agency's Administration, it will sound like nothing more than an excuse to the surviving spouse or child(ren) of the fallen officer.
Just something for Administration and training providers to consider.

Veterans Day is a day of reflection and appreciation for the patriotism, service, and sacrifice of all of the men & women who have honorably served in the U.S. Military.
To all who have made the commitment to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, thank you.

There is a lot to dissect in this picture. You have people with zero situational awareness of their environment, people reacting primal, protective and one guy reacting tactically to intercept the danger.
Coach Tony Blauer & the S.P.E.A.R. System teach that having a startle flinch response is our body's organic airbag. It's our genetically wired survival system. They also teach regular people to special operations soldiers how to convert that flinch to survive an ambush and get to a point of domination, so you can be safer in any environment, even at a baseball game.

I love my gear nerds out there, but if you are not training to respond from precarious positions then you are doing yourself a disservice.
Shooting from the ground, from your back, each side and head facing targets and transitioning between these positions can really help you to better understand gear placement on your loadout and how you may have to move under pressure.

Attending Bulletproof Mind with one of my favorite people, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. If you have an opportunity to attend one of these seminars, I highly recommend it.
