USHJA-Approved Outreach show series - the newest in Spokane’s growing lineup of show opportunities!

08/04/2026

We are so very sad to see the terrible devastation and displacement of so many people and their animals due to the catastrophic fires in the Spokane region. Our thoughts & prayers are with all those affected and with the brave firefighters working so tirelessly.

These extremely smokey conditions are of considerable heath concern for everyone - including horses too! The air quality changes almost hourly - to know the current conditions please visit:
https://www.spokanecleanair.org/current-air-quality
Here you will find a chart that updates conditions every hour on the half hour.

Our own Dr. Amanda Craven, DVM, DACVIM-LA offers the following information to assist you in caring for your horses in smokey conditions. Smoke can affect horse's lungs, especially the ones already dealing with asthma, pneumonia, or other upper or lower airway issues. Please watch for nasal discharge, coughing, harder breathing, or if your horse seems tired and off their feed.
If the air quality index hits 101-150, horses with respiratory problems shouldn't be exercised. Above 200, even healthy horses need to skip heavy work and stay in low-dust areas. Other things to keep an eye on are making sure that your horses have access to water that is clear of particulate matter and is ideally located in shaded areas with good ventilation.
As always, MPEH is available 24/7 for emergency care for your horses!

Whether you were directly impacted or know someone who was we are all devastated by the recent fires in our community. To help our trainer friends and horsemen impacted, Meadow View Farm and the Rusty Stirrup have reached out to our barn family and consignors to help in the recovery and rebuilding efforts. We are establishing a way for those in need to shop donated items and items at reduced prices! We have all sorts of equipment including saddles, bridles, pads, gallop boots, bits, leather goods, wraps, bandages, etc, Most of our inventory is for Hunter/Jumper, Eventing and Dressage. But we will accept donations from all disciplines. Please contact us if you have items to donate. Shopping will begin later this week by appointment. If you have a trainer, please let them know what you need. Thank you to our consignors who have agreed to donate consigned items or reduce prices to make it easier for those in need.
