Unless you’re physically there to see it, I don’t think you can fully understand what has happened here.
I rode my bike down into one of the neighborhoods impacted by the Spokane fires. If you know me, you know how much I love my bike rides. But this was unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
There must have been hundreds of homes - that I saw - burned to the ground. The devastation is catastrophic.
My wife and I were evacuated, and so was my daughter with her cats. We were incredibly fortunate to return to our home last week. So many others were not.
It’s a powerful reminder of just how fragile life can be. We go about our days assuming the people we love, the home we’ve built, and the life we know will all be there tomorrow. We don’t realize how quickly things can change until something like this happens.
Those families woke up Saturday morning with no idea that by the end of the day, the place they called home could be gone.
Be grateful for what you have. Hug your family.
Appreciate your home, your neighbors, and the ordinary moments we so easily take for granted.
Because life can change in a minute, and sometimes it takes something devastating to remind us just how much we already have. I will pray for these people that have started this new journey of recovery.
Godspeed,
Ted
