🏆 Congratulations to South Bend Fire on winning the First Responders Tournament at Potawatomi Park!

Teams made up of law enforcement and fire departments from across the Midwest competed in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). South Bend Fire finished the day undefeated, clinching the championship with a walk-off double in the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs to defeat the Saint Joseph County Police.

A great day of competition for an even greater cause. Congratulations to all the teams who participated!

Tip of the cap to Matt Nelson and United Beverage for stepping up and making this happen! The new wind screens look absolutely fantastic and are a first-class addition to the Byers Softball Complex. Somewhere above, legendary Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray is smiling down, probably saying, “Holy Cow!” What a great day for a game!

Today’s celebration marked an exciting milestone for a complex that has served South Bend athletes and families for generations. The improvements will enhance the player and visitor experience, expand recreational opportunities, and help ensure Byers remains a premier destination for softball and community events for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life and to all who joined us to celebrate this investment in South Bend’s parks and neighborhoods.

Today, Byers Softball Complex celebrated the completion of the improvements and enhancements of the park!

New upgrades include:
- Updated press box, concessions, and operational facilities improvements.
- Rebuilt all 4 main softball complex infields and full rebuild of the blue field
- Modernized irrigation and drainage improvements
- New entry plaza gateway, fencing, and historical signage
- New shade structures
- Resurfaced parking lot and repaired concrete walks
- New monument signage for the main entrance
- Removal of overgrown outfield shrubbery
- New neighborhood splashpad with Life Floor® safety surface (1st in the City)

We are thrilled about these new developments and how they will elevate recreational opportunities, support local athletics, and strengthen the community’s park system.
