Terrific Tobin Tops Tournament
Even numbered years seem to suit Dan Tobin best, as he claimed his 3rd Greater South Bend Men’s Senior Metro title today, adding to his wins in 2022 and 2024. Tobin followed up yesterday’s 71 at Erskine with a 73 today at Elbel, to best runner-up, and defending champ, Brent Curtis by 3 shots.
The round began with Tobin holding a 4-shot lead, narrowed to 2 on the outward nine, but his birdie on Hole #9 pushed the lead back to 3. Curtis, who posted the day’s low round (72), fought back to tie, after a par on #10 and birdies on #11 and #12. Dan then finished the final 6 holes in one under par to capture the title.
Aris Andrews topped Dan Filchak in “Overall Division” Net play.
Don Happ won the “60-69” Age Division, with a 36-hole total of 153, highlighted by a spectacular round of 69 at Erskine on Saturday.
Win Lindner was the “60-69” Net winner, besting Nick Mark by a shot. Win’s 78 today was the low round at Elbel in the age bracket.
In the “70+” Age Division, Kevin Swartz played two outstanding rounds, a 74 and 75, to edge Bob Doty by one. It was quite a back nine for both players, with Kevin’s 35 (-1) enough to hold off Bob’s hard charging 34 (-2). David “Doc” Krizman captured the Net crown.
Roger Prentkowski was the top scorer for those 80+ aged players, posting 157 (72-85). Roger’s 72 at Erskine included 3 birdies (Holes 2, 5 and 15).
Congratulations to our champs and many thanks to all who competed! As always, it was a great pleasure for our City of South Bend courses, Erskine and Elbel, to host the Women’s Metro, which includes a Senior Division, the Men’s Metro and the Senior Men’s Metro.
Please enjoy the remainder of our 2026 season and we’ll look forward to hosting the Greater South Bend Metros again in 2027!
