The Tammany Twirlers Square and Round Dance Club

Let's Square them up! The Tammany Twirlers Square and Round Dance Club was formed in 1962 in Slidell, Louisiana and quickly grew to over 100 members.

Their first festival was held in 1963 at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium with a live square dance band, four callers from two states, and a round dance program. This tradition has continued for the past 50 years. Hundreds of dancers from several states attend the festivals each year to enjoy the friendship, fellowship, and dancing provided by this annual event. The Twirlers brought big time square dancing to Slidell with monthly dances with nationally recognized square dance callers.

THIS coming Saturday, September 19th, Tammany Twirlers in Slidell will feature Mike Blohm, square dance caller, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We welcome your company, and friendly energy! The following Saturday Sept 26, we have Joey DuHamel as our scheduled caller!
The new square dance class will have ONE more open Tuesday for any newcomers eager to join us, doors open 6:30 pm, class 7-9 pm, on Sept 22, 2026. For info, text 985-640-1735.

Our first night of open square dance lessons for new students September 8, 2026 at Tammany Twirlers Clubhouse, 35386 Home Estate Dr, Slidell, LA drew plenty of smiles and laughter as we met on the dance floor! Thank you , Mike Blohm!
Next Tuesday , September 15th, we still invite newcomers to join us, doors open 6:30 pm, 7pm to 9 pm dance class.
Special “OPEN HOUSE Fun Night” Saturday Sept 12, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Visitors and guests are FREE. There will be Introduction to square dance, easy line dances and mixers- no experience needed. Just bring your humor and smiles, and wear casual clothes! Or square dance apparel.

Saturday, September 5th, 2026 at Tammany Twirlers Clubhouse, 35386 Home Estate Dr, Slidell LA, we look forward to the melodious talents of David Radecker, square dance caller, who specializes in those toe-tapping singing calls 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. With Eric and Linda Dutton giving Introduction to Rounds at 5 pm, and providing lines and mixers during the scheduled dance, there will be plenty of fun this coming weekend! Non dancing guests are always welcome to visit free.
Lessons for beginner square dance start Tuesday September 8th, 7 pm to 9 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm.
And Saturday September 12, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm we will have a special Fun Night for beginner dancers. Bring your smiles!

What’s going on at Tammany Twirlers in the next few weeks…? Reminder, for Saturday August 29, we are DARK, to honor our neighbors in Alabama who are offering the Alabama State Square Dance Convention.
On Saturday 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, 5th of September, we have David Radecker as our caller, who presents such melodious singing calls! Eric and Linda Dutton offer Into to Rounds, 5 pm, and include lines or mixers at the square dance breaks.
We want to thank participants at the recent August 22 Saturday, as newcomers joined for a couple of “fun beginner” dances during the evening, as Nick Hartley , caller, and his terrific wife Lynette made it a memorable evening. Speaking of memorable, our beloved Frances Matthews, Club Treasurer , was given a warm birthday tribute, with a fresh cake from member Joyce Bouvier. Thanks, one and all!
Reminder that guests are always welcome to visit our Saturday dances, and discover the fun we enjoy!
On September 12, at our scheduled Saturday dance, look for more “beginner fun tips”, with Ron Johnson, caller, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. And some easy lines or mixers will be offered too!

Yes, we KNOW it’s crazy hot outside- but it’s refreshing and cool inside the Tammany Twirlers Clubhouse. This Saturday August 15th, we have Harry Case, square dance caller, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Eric and Linda Dutton are back, with Introduction to Rounds at 5 pm, and will provide some lines or mixers between squares, too.
And because it’s hot, if you want to, wear casual clothes, or white square dance apparel, in a reflection of the “Tammany Twirler”s White Linen Night!”

The Tammany Twirlers are DARK (closed) on Saturday August 8th, in support of neighboring Tennessee State Square Dance Convention. NEXT week we feature the terrific Harry Case, square dance caller, on August 15th! Squares 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Don’t forget we will enjoy Tuesday plus moves workshop with caller/instructor Mike Blohm. 7-9 pm.
