To support a fun hobby of mine, I needed to make some crab measurement rulers/guages. While I could have just cut a couple of pieces of wood to 5 1/2" and called it day, I decided to have some fun with them!

These measure 6 1/2" in length and are made from recycled white oak flooring. They fit easily in a side or front pocket and, as a bonus, they float!

If anyone is into crabbing and would like a personalized measuring stick just LMK! Almost any lettering and graphics you can think of that will fit in handle is do-able! Only $10 for one and discounts for multiples! While this one measures a crab 5 1/2 wide, I can make ones that measure basically any width you wish.

Cheers!

It seems that I can't keep an inventory of these US Flags on the shelf! Every one I make is usually bought as soon as it's completed!

These are made from 100% recycled oak and measure right around 21x12 inches and are roughly and inch thick. I use different ways to age and gray the wood to get the color difference in the stripes and the area behind the stars. Each stripe is a different piece of oak as well as the field behind the stars. The stars are all carved. I also cut a keyhole style hanger on the back to make it easy to mount it flush on a wall.

I am asking $75 for them - please LMK if you want one and I'll put you in the queue! Other sizes are certainly available - just LMK your wishes.

Time to make a few more!

Cheers!

Had an hour or so in between jobs this weekend and remembered something I saw hanging in a consignment shop years ago.......... I dug out a few pallet boards and made what I remembered seeing. I gotta say it looks really nice!

Overall, it's around 17" in height and painted in shades of blue.

Unless someone is interested in buying this, it will hang right where it is - on the outside wall of my shop. :-)

If anybody is looking for something like this, just contact me and we can talk!

Cheers!

I saw an ad for a funny t-shirt a while ago and thought that it pretty much defined my Sister. Had a bit a free time late last week so I designed a similar sign and carved it into a piece of white oak. I surprised her with it via the mail yesterday so I am now able to share it on my page. :-)

Measures 6 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 1 inch thick and has a keyhole style hanger on the back so it can hang flush on a wall.

Surprise client is surprised and happy!

I continued on the theme of using old oak to make wooden flags........ This time I made a Maryland Flag!

I wanted to show off the age and grain of the boards so I used white-wash style colors for the grays and white boards and a chemical mixture to darked the black pieces. This very watered down coloring shows every grain of the wood while giving it a nice color.

I am always amazed at how many pieces go into one of these flags - the background alone uses ten pieces with another 32 more for the raised areas!

This one measures 21x14 inches and, as mentioned, is solid antique white oak.

I had a client drop by the shop as I was finishing the side treatement and he bought it as soon as he saw it. :-)

If you want a flag like this, or a US one, or another state or country - let's talk!

Cheers!

A client of mine and I were discussing possible ideas for a wooden US Flag. One option discussed was using an antique piece of either barnwood or fenceboard. While we are still in discussion over which option he likes, I was intrigued enough about the antique/distressed look I decided to go ahead and make a flag using 80+ year old white oak whose last life was horse fencing. It REALLY shows its age and prior use!

The normally red stripes were basically left alone while the white stripes I sanded down to a lighter color. The base under the stars, normally blue, was aged using an ebonzing solution. The stars where carved, exposing the lighter wood underneath.

Overall, it measures right around 22x11 inches and is a full inch thick of solid white oak. It also has a "keyhole" hanger on the back to allow for very easy hanging on a wall and will hang totally flush.

I would love to sell this one - it's the perfect gift idea or will fill that space on your wall where a discussion piece should exist!

First person to contact me can have it for $60 - and you have to promise me you will take good care of it for it's new life on a wall!

Cheers!

I'm feeling like making a carved wooden sign for someone.......... rustic or modern - doesn't matter to me!

I have some fantastic aged barn wood as well as "fancy" white oak and even mahogany to use.

If you want a great looking sign for your house/cabin/boat/shed/shack just let me know! First person to ask gets an incredible deal!

Cheers!

Here's my latest commisioned project.

This is a hand turned bowl and carved spoon made from the same piece of antique white oak.

A wonderful client reached out to me around two weeks ago asking me to make these to be given as a gift to her husband.

The bowl is on the "chunky" side, as requested, and measures around six inches in diameter and 3 1/2" tall. The spoon is around five inches long.

The bowl was treated with a food-safe epoxy to seal the interior as its intended use was described as "oatmeal and ice cream" - hopefully not at the same time! :-)

I just got word that the husband loves his gift and eats out of it daily - WIN!

Cheers!

Decided to make a simple bird house to add to many others I have around my home.........

Okay, maybe "simple" might not be a good description. ;-)

I certainly went overboard on all the details for this one. I wanted the Tim Burton / Wes Anderson theme. What do you think????

Hand cut window and carved front door. Individual shingles for the roof.

BTW - it's a proper birdhouse, to include a cleanout access (the bottom is on hinges).

My wife gets all the credit for painting the tree and moon on the front! Fantastic job!

Oh yeah - If you want to purchase this or have a similar one made for your property LMK!

Cheers!
